And Moses told the words of the people to the LORD. 10 And the LORD said to Moses, Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes, 11 And be ready for the third day, for on the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon Mount Sinai. 12 And you shall set boundaries for the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that you do not go up into the mount, or touch the border of it; whoever touches the mount shall surely be put to death: 13 No hand shall touch it, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether it is beast or man, it shall not live; when the trumpet sounds long, they shall come up to the mount. 14 And Moses went down from the mount to the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes. 15 And he said to the people, Be ready for the third day; do not come near your wives. 16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceedingly loud, so that all the people in the camp trembled. 17 And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the lower part of the mount. 18 And Mount Sinai was all in smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire, and the smoke went up like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. 19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long and grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice. 20 And the LORD came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mount, and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.

Your complaints are not against us, but against the LORD. 9 And Moses spoke to Aaron, Say to all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD, for he has heard your complaints. 10 And it came to pass, as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud. 11 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 12 I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel: speak to them, saying, At evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God. 13 And it came to pass that in the evening the quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay all around the camp. 14 And when the dew had gone up, there on the surface of the wilderness lay a small round thing, as small as the frost on the ground. 15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, What is it? For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat. 16 This is the thing which the LORD has commanded: Gather of it every man according to his need, an omer for every person, according to the number of your people; each man take for those who are in his tent. 17 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.

  • Num 11:1-9 : 1 And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD; and the LORD heard it; and His anger was kindled, and the fire of the LORD burned among them, and consumed those who were in the outermost parts of the camp. 2 And the people cried to Moses; and when Moses prayed to the LORD, the fire was quenched. 3 And he called the name of the place Taberah, because the fire of the LORD burned among them. 4 And the mixed multitude that was among them fell to lusting, and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us meat to eat? 5 We remember the fish, which we ate in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic: 6 But now our soul is dried away; there is nothing at all, besides this manna, before our eyes. 7 And the manna was like coriander seed, and its color was like the color of bdellium. 8 The people went about and gathered it, ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it; and its taste was like the taste of fresh oil. 9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it. 10 Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent, and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased. 11 And Moses said to the LORD, Why have You afflicted Your servant? and why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You lay the burden of all this people upon me? 12 Have I conceived all this people? Have I begotten them, that You should say to me, Carry them in your bosom, as a nursing father bears the nursing child, to the land which You swore to their fathers? 13 Where should I have meat to give to all this people? for they weep to me, saying, Give us meat, that we may eat. 14 I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me. 15 And if You deal thus with me, kill me, I pray You, out of hand, if I have found favor in Your sight; and let me not see my wretchedness. 16 And the LORD said to Moses, Gather to Me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them to the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with you. 17 And I will come down and talk with you there, and I will take of the Spirit which is upon you, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you do not bear it yourself alone. 18 And say to the people, Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat; for you have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us meat to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt; therefore the LORD will give you meat, and you shall eat. 19 You shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days; 20 But even a whole month, until it comes out at your nostrils, and it is loathsome to you; because you have despised the LORD who is among you, and have wept before Him, saying, Why did we come out of Egypt? 21 And Moses said, The people among whom I am are six hundred thousand footmen; and You have said, I will give them meat, that they may eat a whole month. 22 Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them? 23 And the LORD said to Moses, Is the LORD's hand shortened? You shall see now whether My word shall come to pass to you or not. 24 And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them around the tabernacle. 25 And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it to the seventy elders; and it came to pass, that when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease. 26 But two of the men remained in the camp, the name of one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad; and the spirit rested upon them, and they were of those that were written, but did not go out to the tabernacle, and they prophesied in the camp. 27 And a young man ran and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad prophesy in the camp. 28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them. 29 And Moses said to him, Are you envious for my sake? Would God that all the LORD's people were prophets, and that the LORD would put His Spirit upon them! 30 And Moses returned to the camp, he and the elders of Israel. 31 And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall beside the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's journey on the other side, all around the camp, and about two cubits high upon the face of the earth. 32 And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails; he that gathered least gathered ten homers; and they spread them all abroad for themselves all around the camp. 33 And while the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD struck the people with a very great plague. 34 And he called the name of that place Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people that lusted. 35 And the people traveled from Kibroth Hattaavah to Hazeroth, and stayed at Hazeroth.

Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt? 4 And they said to one another, Let us choose a captain, and let us return to Egypt. 5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel. 6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those that searched the land, tore their clothes: 7 And they spoke to all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceedingly good land. 8 If the LORD delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it to us; a land which flows with milk and honey. 9 Only do not rebel against the LORD, neither fear the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their protection is removed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not. 10 But all the congregation threatened to stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel. 11 And the LORD said to Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be before they believe me, for all the signs which I have shown among them? 12 I will strike them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of you a nation greater and mightier than they. 13 And Moses said to the LORD, Then the Egyptians will hear it, (for you brought up this people in your might from among them;) 14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that you LORD are among this people, that you LORD are seen face to face, and that your cloud stands over them, and that you go before them, by day in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night. 15 Now if you shall kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying, 16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness. 17 And now, I beseech you, let the power of my Lord be great, according as you have spoken, saying, 18 The LORD is longsuffering and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation. 19 Pardon, I beseech you, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your mercy, and as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now. 20 And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to your word: 21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD. 22 Because all those men who have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not listened to my voice; 23 Surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: 24 But my servant Caleb, because he had a different spirit with him, and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land where he went; and his offspring shall possess it. 25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you, and get into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea. 26 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmurs against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me. 28 Say to them, As truly as I live, says the LORD, as you have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you: 29 Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me, 30 Surely you shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun. 31 But your little ones, which you said would be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which you have despised. 32 But as for you, your carcasses, they shall fall in this wilderness. 33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your faithlessness, until your carcasses are consumed in the wilderness. 34 After the number of the days in which you searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall you bear your iniquities, even forty years, and you shall know my breach of promise. 35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it to all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die. 36 And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land, 37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD. 38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still. 39 And Moses told these sayings to all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly. 40 And they rose up early in the morning, and went up into the top of the mountain, saying, Here we are, and will go up to the place which the LORD has promised: for we have sinned. 41 And Moses said, Why now do you transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper. 42 Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that you be not struck down before your enemies. 43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and you shall fall by the sword: because you have turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you. 44 But they presumed to go up to the mountaintop: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp. 45 Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites who dwelt in that hill, and struck them, and beat them down, even to Hormah.
  • Num 16:1-9 : 1 Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men. 2 And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty leaders of the assembly, distinguished in the congregation, men of renown. 3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them, You take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation is holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: why then do you lift yourselves above the congregation of the LORD? 4 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face. 5 And he spoke to Korah and to all his company, saying, Tomorrow the LORD will show who are His, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near to Him: even him whom He has chosen will He cause to come near to Him. 6 This do; Take your censers, Korah, and all his company. 7 And put fire in them, and put incense in them before the LORD tomorrow: and it shall be that the man whom the LORD chooses, he shall be holy: you take too much upon you, sons of Levi. 8 And Moses said to Korah, Hear, I pray you, sons of Levi. 9 Does it seem like a small thing to you, that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to Himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them? 10 And He has brought you near to Him, and all your brethren the sons of Levi with you: and do you seek the priesthood also? 11 For this cause, both you and all your company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that you complain against him? 12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: who said, We will not come up. 13 Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land that flows with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, unless you make yourself altogether a prince over us? 14 Moreover, you have not brought us into a land that flows with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up. 15 And Moses was very angry, and said to the LORD, Respect not their offering: I have not taken one donkey from them, nor have I harmed one of them. 16 And Moses said to Korah, Be here with all your company before the LORD, you, and they, and Aaron, tomorrow. 17 And take each man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring them before the LORD, each man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; you also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.

We will not pass through fields or vineyards, nor will we drink water from wells; we will go along the King's Highway; we will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left until we have passed through your territories." 18 But Edom said to him, "You shall not pass through my land, lest I come out against you with the sword." 19 So the children of Israel said to him, "We will go by the highway, and if I or my livestock drink any of your water, then I will pay for it; let me only pass through on foot, without doing anything else." 20 Then he said, "You shall not pass through." So Edom came out against them with many men and with a strong army. 21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his territory; so Israel turned away from him.
