Then Amos answered, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was a herdsman, and a gatherer of sycamore fruit:

8As I live, says the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became food for every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, nor did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and did not feed my flock;
7Who goes to war at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? Or who tends a flock and does not drink of the milk of the flock?
1And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
1Woe is me! For I am like when they have gathered the summer fruits, like the grape gleanings of the vintage: there is no cluster to eat; my soul desired the first ripe fruit.
10Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock; nor shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be food for them.
13Then I said, 'Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, the prophets say to them, 'You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.''
14Then the LORD said to me, 'The prophets prophesy lies in My name; I have not sent them, nor commanded them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision and divination, a worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart.'
15Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the prophets who prophesy in My name, and I have not sent them, yet they say, 'Sword and famine shall not be in this land'—by sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed.
14Feed your people with your rod, the flock of your heritage, who dwell solitarily in the woodland, in the midst of Carmel; let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old.
7In that day he shall swear, saying, I will not be a healer; for in my house is neither bread nor clothing; do not make me a ruler of the people.
8Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
15The LORD said to me, Take for yourself the implements of a foolish shepherd.
16For behold, I will raise up a shepherd in the land who will not care for those who are cut off, nor seek the young, nor heal the broken, nor feed what stands still. But he will eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their hooves in pieces.
7So I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. I took to myself two staffs: one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bonds; and I fed the flock.
17Though the fig tree shall not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; the labor of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no food; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls.
14And went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak: and he said to him, Are you the man of God that came from Judah? And he said, I am.
7With which the mower does not fill his hand, nor he who binds sheaves his bosom.
1Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
8The priests did not say, Where is the LORD? and those who handle the law did not know me: the shepherds also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.
6Then I said, Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
7But the LORD said to me, Do not say, I am a child: for you shall go to all to whom I shall send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.
16As for me, I have not hastened from being a shepherd to follow you: neither have I desired the woeful day; you know: that which came out of my lips was right before you.
