O generation, behold the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness to Israel? a land of darkness? why do my people say, We are lords; we will come no more to you?

6 Neither did they say, Where is the LORD who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no one passed through, and where no one lived?
7 And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat its fruit and its goodness; but when you entered, you defiled my land, and made my heritage an abomination.
8 The priests did not say, Where is the LORD? and those who handle the law did not know me: the shepherds also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.
10 For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send to Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there has been such a thing.
11 Has a nation changed their gods, which are not gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit.
12 Be astonished, O heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be very desolate, says the LORD.
13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and carved themselves cisterns, broken cisterns that can hold no water.
14 Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he plundered?
6 My people have been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their resting place.
2 Hear, O heavens, and listen, O earth: for the LORD has spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.
3 The ox knows its owner, and the donkey its master's crib: but Israel does not know, my people do not consider.
4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children who are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel to anger, they have gone away backward.
19 But I said, How shall I put you among the children and give you a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations? And I said, You shall call me, My Father; and shall not turn away from me.
20 Surely, as a wife treacherously departs from her husband, so have you dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, says the LORD.
21 A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God.
22 Return, you backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come to you; for you are the LORD our God.
10 Thus says the LORD to this people, 'Thus they have loved to wander, they have not restrained their feet; therefore the LORD does not accept them; He will now remember their iniquity and punish their sins.'
17 O LORD, why have you made us to stray from your ways, and hardened our heart from your fear? Return for your servants' sake, the tribes of your inheritance.
6 You have forsaken me, says the LORD, you have gone backward: therefore I will stretch out my hand against you, and destroy you; I am weary with repenting.
10 And it shall come to pass, when you show this people all these words, and they say to you, Why has the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God?
11 Then you shall say to them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, says the LORD, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshiped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law.
18 The LORD is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men have gone into captivity.
11 But my people would not listen to my voice; and Israel did not want me.
10 They have turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
13 And the LORD says, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, nor walked in it;
3 O my people, what have I done to you? And how have I wearied you? Testify against Me.
19 And it shall come to pass, when you shall say, Why does the LORD our God do all these things to us? then you shall answer them, Just as you have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall you serve strangers in a land that is not yours.
20 Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,
6 Turn to Him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.
5 Why then has this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit, they refuse to return.
19 Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of those who dwell in a far country: Is not the LORD in Zion? Is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their carved images and strange idols?
9 The women of my people you have cast out from their pleasant houses; from their children you have taken away my glory forever.
1 Thus says the LORD, Where is the certificate of your mother's divorce, whom I have put away? Or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities you have sold yourselves, and for your transgressions your mother is put away.
1 Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you from being a priest to me; seeing you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children.
19 Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that my fear is not in you, says the Lord GOD of hosts.
17 Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare your people, O LORD, and give not your heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, Where is their God?
7 And my people are determined to backslide from me; though they called them to the Most High, none at all would exalt him.
15 Because my people have forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not established;
19 O LORD, my strength and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come to you from the ends of the earth and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things in which there is no profit.
9 That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children who will not hear the law of the LORD:
21 I spoke to you in your prosperity; but you said, I will not hear. This has been your manner from your youth, that you obeyed not my voice.
4 Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying, Thus says the LORD of hosts: Turn now from your evil ways and from your evil deeds. But they did not hear nor listen to Me, says the LORD.
6 Do you thus repay the LORD, O foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father who has bought you? Has he not made you, and established you?
4 In that day shall one take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, We are utterly spoiled: he has changed the portion of my people; how has he removed it from me! Turning away, he has divided our fields.
