7And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.
8Then they said to him, Tell us, we pray you, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is your occupation? and from where do you come? what is your country? and of what people are you?
1But it displeased Jonah greatly, and he was very angry.
2And he prayed to the LORD, and said, I pray you, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was still in my country? Therefore I fled before to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and relent from doing harm.
6And I will cast abominable filth upon you, and make you vile, and will set you as a spectacle.
7And it shall come to pass, that all who look upon you will flee from you, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will mourn for her? From where shall I seek comforters for you?
8Are you better than populous No, that was situated among the rivers, that had the waters around it, whose rampart was the sea, whose wall was from the sea?

10Then the LORD said, You have had pity on the plant, for which you have not labored, nor made it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:
11And should I not spare Nineveh, that great city, where there are more than one hundred twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
30For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also shall the Son of Man be to this generation.
11Then they said to him, What shall we do to you, that the sea may be calm for us? for the sea was rough, and was tempestuous.
12Therefore also now, says the LORD, turn to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.
1Cry aloud, do not hold back; lift up your voice like a trumpet, and show my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.
