1The Opening Exhortation Then Moses called all the people of Israel together and said to them:“Listen, Israel, to the statutes and ordinances that I am about to deliver to you today; learn them and be careful to keep them!

27You go near so that you can hear everything the LORD our God is saying and then you can tell us whatever he says to you; then we will pay attention and do it.”
27but as a reminder to us and you, and to our descendants who follow us, that we will honor the LORD in his very presence with burnt offerings, sacrifices, and tokens of peace. Then in the future your descendants will not be able to say to our descendants,‘You have no right to worship the LORD.’
28We said,‘If in the future they say such a thing to us or to our descendants, we will reply,“See the model of the LORD’s altar that our ancestors made, not for burnt offerings or sacrifices, but as a reminder to us and you.”’
13“The LORD God of Israel has a message for you.‘I made a covenant with your ancestors when I brought them out of Egypt where they had been slaves. It stipulated,

7We have behaved corruptly against you, not obeying the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments that you commanded your servant Moses.
10He said,“See, I am going to make a covenant before all your people. I will do wonders such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation. All the people among whom you live will see the work of the LORD, for it is a fearful thing that I am doing with you.
6Events at Horeb The LORD our God spoke to us at Horeb and said,“You have stayed in the area of this mountain long enough.
18And today the LORD has declared you to be his special people(as he already promised you) so you may keep all his commandments.
19Then we left Horeb and passed through all that immense, forbidding wilderness that you saw on the way to the Amorite hill country as the LORD our God had commanded us to do, finally arriving at Kadesh Barnea.
6The LORD said to me,“Announce all the following words in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem:‘Listen to the terms of my covenant with you and carry them out!
24We swear we have done this because we were worried that in the future your descendants would say to our descendants,‘What relationship do you have with the LORD God of Israel?
38You must never forget the covenant I made with you, and you must not worship other gods.
3Moses came and told the people all the LORD’s words and all the decisions. All the people answered together,“We are willing to do all the words that the LORD has said,”
5And now, if you will diligently listen to me and keep my covenant, then you will be my special possession out of all the nations, for all the earth is mine,
20You, however, the LORD has selected and brought from Egypt, that iron-smelting furnace, to be his special people as you are today.
53After all, you picked them out of all the nations of the earth to be your special possession, just as you, O Sovereign LORD, announced through your servant Moses when you brought our ancestors out of Egypt.”
32It will not be like the old covenant that I made with their ancestors when I delivered them from Egypt. For they violated that covenant, even though I was like a faithful husband to them,” says the LORD.
3Tell them that the LORD, the God of Israel, says,‘Anyone who does not keep the terms of the covenant will be under a curse.
15Remember continually his covenantal decree, the promise he made to a thousand generations–
