how Babylon has become a desolation among the nations! 24 I have set a trap for you, and you are also caught, O Babylon, and you were not aware: you are found, and also caught, because you have fought against the LORD. 25 The LORD has opened his armory, and has brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans. 26 Come against her from the furthest border, open her storehouses: pile her up as heaps, and utterly destroy her: let nothing of her be left. 27 Slay all her bulls; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation. 28 The voice of those who flee and escape from the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of his temple. 29 Call together the archers against Babylon: all you that bend the bow, camp against it all around; let none of them escape: repay her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do unto her: for she has been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel. 30 Therefore her young men shall fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, says the LORD. 31 Behold, I am against you, O most proud, says the Lord GOD of hosts: for your day has come, the time that I will visit you. 32 And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall help him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all around him. 33 Thus says the LORD of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: and all who took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go. 34 Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall thoroughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon. 35 A sword is upon the Chaldeans, says the LORD, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men. 36 A sword is upon the liars; and they shall turn foolish: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed. 37 A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mixed people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become like women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed. 38 A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of carved images, and they are mad upon their idols. 39 Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited forever; neither shall it be lived in from generation to generation. 40 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring cities, says the LORD; so shall no man dwell there, neither shall any son of man live there. 41 Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the ends of the earth. 42 They shall hold the bow and the spear: they are cruel, and will show no mercy: their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, every one set in order, like a man to the battle, against you, O daughter of Babylon. 43 The king of Babylon has heard the report of them, and his hands grew feeble: anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in labor. 44 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the dwelling of the strong: but I will suddenly make them run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd who will stand before me? 45 Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that he has taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he has purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall drag them out: surely he shall make their dwelling desolate with them. 46 At the noise of the capture of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.
- Jer 51:62-64 : 62 Then you shall say, O LORD, you have spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate forever. 63 And it shall be, when you have finished reading this book, that you shall bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates; 64 And you shall say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her; and they shall be weary. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot. 3 And the LORD said, Just as my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia; 4 So will the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians as prisoners, and the Ethiopians as captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt. 5 And they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their hope, and of Egypt their boast. 6 And the inhabitant of this coastland shall say in that day, Behold, such is our hope, where we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria; and how shall we escape? 1 The prophecy concerning the desert by the sea. I was bent over when I heard it; I was dismayed when I saw it. 4 My heart pounded, fearfulness frightened me; the night that I delighted in has been turned into terror for me. 5 Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, you princes, and anoint the shield. 6 For the Lord has said to me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he sees. 7 And he saw a chariot with a pair of horsemen, a chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels; and he listened diligently with great attention: 8 And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and I am stationed in my post every night: 9 And, behold, here comes a chariot of men with a pair of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the carved images of her gods he has shattered to the ground. 10 O my threshing and the grain of my floor: that which I have heard from the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, I have declared to you. 11 The prophecy concerning Dumah. - Isa 46:1-47:1 : 1 Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols are upon the beasts and upon the cattle; your carriages are heavily loaded; they are a burden to the weary animal. 2 They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but they themselves have gone into captivity. 3 Listen to me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been carried by me from birth, who are carried from the womb: 4 Even to your old age I am he; and even to gray hairs I will carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. 5 To whom will you liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be alike? 6 They pour out gold from the bag, and weigh silver on the scales, and hire a goldsmith; and he makes it a god: they fall down, yes, they worship. 7 They carry him upon the shoulder, they bear him, and set him in his place, and he stands; from his place he shall not move: yes, one shall cry to him, yet he cannot answer, nor save him out of his trouble. 8 Remember this, and show yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O you transgressors. 9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: 11 Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man who executes my counsel from a far country: yes, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it. 12 Listen to me, you stouthearted, that are far from righteousness: 13 I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not delay: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory. 1 Come down and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon; sit on the ground. Let them rise up and help you, and be your protection. 39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: nor is there any that can deliver out of my hand. 40 For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live forever. 41 If I sharpen my glittering sword, and my hand takes hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to my enemies, and will reward those who hate me. 42 I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenge upon the enemy.

- Isa 13:1-9 : 1 The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw. 2 Lift up a banner on the high mountain, exalt the voice to them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles. 3 I have commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones for my anger, even those who rejoice in my exaltation. 4 The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like that of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts musters the host of battle. 5 They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land. 6 Howl; for the day of the LORD is near; it will come as a destruction from the Almighty. 7 Therefore all hands will be feeble, and every man's heart will melt: 8 And they will be afraid: pangs and sorrows will take hold of them; they will be in pain as a woman in labor: they will be amazed at one another; their faces will be like flames. 9 Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he will destroy the sinners out of it. 10 For the stars of heaven and their constellations will not give their light: the sun will be darkened in its rising, and the moon will not cause its light to shine. 11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. 12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir. 13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth will move out of its place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger. 14 And it will be as the hunted roe, and as a sheep that no man takes up: every man will turn to his own people, and everyone will flee to his own land.

- Dan 5:1-9 : 1 Belshazzar the king made a great feast for a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand. 2 Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the gold and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink from them. 3 Then they brought the gold vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank from them. 4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold and silver, of brass, iron, wood, and stone. 5 In the same hour, fingers of a man's hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall of the king's palace, opposite the lampstand; and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. 6 Then the king's face changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his hips were loosened, and his knees knocked against each other. 7 The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, "Whoever shall read this writing, and show me its interpretation, shall be clothed with scarlet, have a chain of gold around his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom." 8 Then all the king's wise men came in, but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation. 9 Then King Belshazzar was greatly troubled, and his face was changed, and his lords were astonished. 10 Now the queen, because of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banquet hall. The queen spoke and said, "O king, live forever! Let not your thoughts trouble you, nor let your face be changed. 11 There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar your father, the king, I say, your father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers. 12 Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, solving of riddles, and dissolving of doubts were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation. 13 Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spoke and said to Daniel, "Are you that Daniel, who is one of the captives of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Judah? 14 I have heard of you, that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you. 15 And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing and make known to me its interpretation, but they could not show the interpretation of the thing. 16 And I have heard of you, that you can give interpretations and solve doubts. Now if you can read the writing and make known to me its interpretation, you shall be clothed with scarlet, have a chain of gold around your neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom. 17 Then Daniel answered and said before the king, "Let your gifts be for yourself, and give your rewards to another; yet I will read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation. 18 O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom, majesty, glory, and honor. 19 And because of the majesty that he gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him; whomever he wished, he executed; whomever he wished, he kept alive; whomever he wished, he set up; and whomever he wished, he put down. 20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened with pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him. 21 Then he was driven from the sons of men; his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and that He appoints over it whomever He chooses. 22 And you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this. 23 But you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them, and you have praised the gods of silver, and gold, brass, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified. 24 Then the fingers of the hand were sent from Him, and this writing was written. 25 And this is the writing that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. 26 This is the interpretation of each word: MENE: God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it. 27 TEKEL: You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting. 28 PERES: Your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians. 29 Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, put a chain of gold around his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. 30 That very night Belshazzar, king of the Chaldeans, was slain. 31 And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.
- Jer 51:24-26 : 24 And I will render to Babylon, and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea, all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, says the LORD. 25 Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, says the LORD, which destroys all the earth; and I will stretch out My hand upon you, and roll you down from the rocks, and will make you a burnt mountain. 26 They shall not take from you a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but you shall be desolate forever, says the LORD.
- Hab 2:1-9 : 1 I will stand upon my watch, and set myself upon the tower, and will watch to see what He will say to me, and what I shall answer when I am corrected. 2 And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets, so that he may run who reads it. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak and not lie: though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not delay. 4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him, but the just shall live by his faith. 5 Indeed, because he transgresses by wine, he is a proud man, neither stays at home, who enlarges his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathers to himself all nations, and heaps to himself all people: 6 Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him who increases that which is not his! How long? And to him who loads himself with thick clay! 7 Shall they not rise up suddenly that will bite you, and awake that will vex you, and you shall be for plunder to them? 8 Because you have plundered many nations, all the remnant of the people shall plunder you; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all who dwell therein. 9 Woe to him who covets an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil! 10 You have consulted shame to your house by cutting off many people, and have sinned against your soul. 11 For the stone shall cry out from the wall, and the beam from the timber shall answer it. 12 Woe to him who builds a town with blood, and establishes a city by iniquity! 13 Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labor in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for mere vanity? 14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. 15 Woe to him who gives his neighbor drink, who puts the bottle to him, and makes him drunk also, that you may look on their nakedness! 16 You are filled with shame for glory: drink you also, and let your foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the LORD'S right hand shall be turned unto you, and shameful spewing shall be on your glory. 17 For the violence of Lebanon shall cover you, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all who dwell therein. 18 What profit is the carved image that its maker has carved it; the molded image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusts in it, to make mute idols? 19 Woe to him who says to the wood, Awake; to the mute stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in its midst. 20 But the LORD is in His holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before Him.
- Rev 18:1-9 : 1 After these things, I saw another angel come down from heaven, possessing great power; and the earth was illuminated with his glory. 2 And he cried out mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become the dwelling of demons, and the prison of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. 3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown rich through the abundance of her luxuries. 4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that you may not be partakers of her sins, and that you may not receive her plagues. 5 For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. 6 Repay her even as she repaid you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she has filled, fill to her double. 7 As much as she has glorified herself, and lived luxuriously, give her that much torment and sorrow: for she says in her heart, I sit as a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. 8 Therefore her plagues shall come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judges her. 9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her, shall mourn and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, 10 Standing far off for fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour your judgment has come. 11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no one buys their merchandise any more: 12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all kinds of citron wood, and all types of vessels of ivory, and all kinds of vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble, 13 And cinnamon, and incense, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and cattle, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men. 14 And the fruits that your soul longed for have departed from you, and all things which were luxurious and splendid have departed from you, and you shall find them no more at all. 15 The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, shall stand far off for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, 16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! 17 For in one hour such great riches came to nothing. And every captain, and all who travel by ship, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood far off, 18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like this great city! 19 And they threw dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea were made rich by her wealth! for in one hour she is made desolate. 20 Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets; for God has avenged you on her. 21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. 22 And the sound of harpists, and musicians, and flutists, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in you; and no craftsman, of any craft, shall be found any more in you; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in you; 23 And the light of a lamp shall shine no more at all in you; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in you: for your merchants were the great men of the earth; for by your sorceries were all nations deceived. 24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth.
