Verse 32

Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and mercy, do not let all the hardship seem little before You that has come upon us, our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our forefathers, and all Your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria until this day.

  • 2 Chr 36:1-9 : 1 Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and made him king in his father's place in Jerusalem. 2 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. 3 And the king of Egypt deposed him at Jerusalem, and fined the land a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold. 4 And the king of Egypt made Eliakim, his brother, king over Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. And Necho took Jehoahaz, his brother, and carried him to Egypt. 5 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem; and he did evil in the sight of the LORD his God. 6 Against him came up Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and bound him in chains, to carry him to Babylon. 7 Nebuchadnezzar also took some of the vessels of the house of the LORD to Babylon, and placed them in his temple at Babylon. 8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and what was found against him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah: and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place. 9 Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem; and he did evil in the sight of the LORD. 10 And when the year was expired, King Nebuchadnezzar sent for him and brought him to Babylon, with the precious vessels of the house of the LORD, and made Zedekiah, his brother, king over Judah and Jerusalem. 11 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. 12 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke from the mouth of the LORD. 13 And he also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God; but he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart from turning to the LORD God of Israel. 14 Moreover, all the leaders of the priests and the people transgressed greatly after all the abominations of the nations, and polluted the house of the LORD which he had sanctified in Jerusalem. 15 And the LORD God of their fathers sent warnings to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending them, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place. 16 But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, until there was no remedy. 17 Therefore, he brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or young woman, old man, or aged; he gave them all into his hand. 18 And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king and of his princes; all these he brought to Babylon. 19 And they burned the house of God, and tore down the wall of Jerusalem, and burned all its palaces with fire, and destroyed all its valuable articles. 20 And those who had escaped from the sword he carried away to Babylon, where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia, 21 to fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate, she kept sabbath, to fulfill seventy years. 22 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying, 23 Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth the LORD God of heaven has given me, and he has charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people? The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up.

  • Isa 36:1-9 : 1 In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them. 2 And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem to King Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the aqueduct of the upper pool on the road to the Fuller's Field. 3 Then Eliakim, son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, son of Asaph, the recorder, came out to him. 4 And Rabshakeh said to them, Say now to Hezekiah, Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria: What confidence is this in which you trust? 5 I say that your words are empty: I have counsel and strength for war. Now in whom do you trust, that you rebel against me? 6 Indeed, you trust in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt, which if a man leans on, it will pierce his hand. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him. 7 But if you say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not He whose high places and altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, You shall worship before this altar? 8 Now therefore, I urge you, give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to put riders on them. 9 How then will you turn away one captain of the least of my master's servants and put your trust in Egypt for chariots and horsemen? 10 Have I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land and destroy it. 11 Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah said to Rabshakeh, Speak, please, to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it. Do not speak to us in the Jews' language in the hearing of the people who are on the wall. 12 But Rabshakeh said, Has my master sent me to your master and to you to speak these words? Has he not sent me to the men who sit on the wall, who will eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you? 13 Then Rabshakeh stood and called out with a loud voice in the Jews' language and said, Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria! 14 Thus says the king: Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he shall not be able to deliver you. 15 Nor let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us; this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. 16 Do not listen to Hezekiah, for thus says the king of Assyria: Make peace with me by a present, and come out to me, and every one of you eat from his own vine and his own fig tree and drink the waters of his own cistern, 17 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vineyards. 18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Has any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? 19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Indeed, have they delivered Samaria from my hand? 20 Who among all the gods of these lands have delivered their land from my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem from my hand? 21 But they held their peace and answered him not a word, for the king's order was, Do not answer him. 22 Then Eliakim, son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn and told him the words of Rabshakeh.

  • Jer 39:1-9 : 1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah, king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and all his army came against Jerusalem, and they besieged it. 2 And in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the city was broken into. 3 Then all the princes of the king of Babylon came in and sat in the middle gate: Nergalsharezer, Samgarnebo, Sarsechim, Rabsaris, Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, with all the rest of the princes of the king of Babylon. 4 And it happened that when Zedekiah, the king of Judah, saw them and all the men of war, they fled and went out of the city by night, by the way of the king’s garden, by the gate between the two walls; and he went out the way of the plain. 5 But the Chaldeans' army pursued them and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he gave judgment upon him. 6 Then the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes; also the king of Babylon killed all the nobles of Judah. 7 Moreover, he blinded Zedekiah’s eyes and bound him with chains to carry him to Babylon. 8 The Chaldeans burned the king’s house and the houses of the people with fire and broke down the walls of Jerusalem. 9 Then Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, carried away captive to Babylon the remnant of the people who remained in the city and those who fell away, who fell to him, with the rest of the people who remained. 10 But Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, left some of the poor of the people who had nothing in the land of Judah and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time. 11 Now Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, gave charge concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, saying, 12 Take him and look well to him and do him no harm; but do to him even as he says to you. 13 So Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, sent, and Nebushasban, Rabsaris, and Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, and all the princes of the king of Babylon; 14 They even sent and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison and committed him to Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, that he should take him home: so he dwelt among the people. 15 Now the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah while he was shut up in the court of the prison, saying, 16 Go and speak to Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for harm and not for good; and they shall be accomplished that day before you. 17 But I will deliver you that day, says the LORD, and you shall not be given into the hand of the men of whom you are afraid. 18 For I will surely deliver you, and you shall not fall by the sword, but your life shall be as a prize to you, because you have put your trust in me, says the LORD.
  • Jer 52:1-9 : 1 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. 2 And he did what was evil in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done. 3 For through the anger of the LORD it happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon. 4 And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and camped against it, and built forts against it all around. 5 So the city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah. 6 And in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the famine was severe in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land. 7 Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went out of the city by night, by way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king's garden; (now the Chaldeans were all around the city:) and they went by the way of the plain. 8 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him. 9 Then they captured the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he pronounced judgment upon him. 10 And the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes; he also killed all the princes of Judah in Riblah. 11 Then he put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and the king of Babylon bound him in chains, and carried him to Babylon, and put him in prison until the day of his death. 12 Now in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, who served the king of Babylon, came into Jerusalem, 13 And burned the house of the LORD, and the king's house; and all the houses of Jerusalem, and all the houses of the great men, he burned with fire: 14 And all the army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down all the walls of Jerusalem all around. 15 Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive some of the poorest people, and the rest of the people who remained in the city, and those who had defected, to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the multitude. 16 But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left some of the poor of the land to be vinedressers and farmers. 17 Also, the bronze pillars that were in the house of the LORD, and the bases, and the bronze sea that was in the house of the LORD, the Chaldeans broke, and carried all the bronze to Babylon. 18 The pots also, and the shovels, and the snuffers, and the bowls, and the spoons, and all the vessels of bronze with which they ministered, they took away. 19 And the basins, and the firepans, and the bowls, and the pots, and the lampstands, and the spoons, and the cups; what was of gold in gold, and what was of silver in silver, the captain of the guard took away. 20 The two pillars, one sea, and twelve bronze bulls that were under the bases, which King Solomon had made in the house of the LORD: the bronze of these vessels was beyond weight. 21 And concerning the pillars, the height of one pillar was eighteen cubits; and a string of twelve cubits circled it; and its thickness was four fingers: it was hollow. 22 And a capital of bronze was upon it; and the height of one capital was five cubits, with network and pomegranates upon the capitals all around, all of bronze. The second pillar and the pomegranates were similar to these. 23 And there were ninety-six pomegranates on a side; and all the pomegranates on the network were one hundred all around. 24 And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the door: 25 He took also out of the city an officer, who had the charge of the men of war; and seven men of those who were near the king's presence, who were found in the city; and the principal scribe of the army, who mustered the people of the land; and sixty men of the people of the land who were found in the midst of the city. 26 So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah. 27 And the king of Babylon struck them and put them to death in Riblah in the land of Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away captive from his own land. 28 These are the people whom Nebuchadnezzar carried away captive: in the seventh year three thousand Jews and twenty-three; 29 In the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar, he carried away captive from Jerusalem eight hundred thirty-two persons; 30 In the twenty-third year of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive of the Jews seven hundred forty-five persons: all the persons were four thousand and six hundred. 31 And it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-fifth day of the month, that Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him out of prison, 32 And spoke kindly to him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon, 33 And changed his prison garments: and he regularly ate bread before him all the days of his life. 34 And for his diet, there was a regular portion given to him by the king of Babylon, daily a portion until the day of his death, all the days of his life.
