Verse 19

When you lay siege to a city for a long time to capture it, do not destroy its trees by cutting them down with an axe, for you may eat from them. Do not cut them down, for is the tree of the field a human that it should face the siege with you?

  • John 15:2-8 : 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and show yourselves to be my disciples.
