- Jer 44:7-8 : 7 Now therefore, thus says the LORD, the God of Hosts, the God of Israel: Why are you doing such great harm to yourselves, cutting off from Judah man, woman, child, and infant, leaving yourselves without any remnant? 8 You provoke me to anger with the works of your hands by burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you have come to live, so as to destroy yourselves and make yourselves a curse and a disgrace among all the nations of the earth.

So the Israelites went home. 17 But as for the Israelites who were living in the towns of Judah, Rehoboam still ruled over them. 18 King Rehoboam sent out Adoniram, who was in charge of forced labor, but all Israel stoned him to death. King Rehoboam managed to get into his chariot and flee to Jerusalem. 19 So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day. 20 When all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they sent for him and called him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel.
