Go to King David and say to him, 'My lord the king, did you not swear to your servant, saying, "Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne"? Then why has Adonijah become king?'

11Then Nathan said to Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother, "Have you not heard that Adonijah, the son of Haggith, has become king, and our lord David does not know about it?"
12"Now go, please, let me advise you so that you may save your own life and the life of your son Solomon.
16'Now I have one request to make of you; do not refuse me.' And she said, 'Speak.'
17He continued, 'Please ask King Solomon—he will not refuse you—to give me Abishag the Shunammite as my wife.'
18'Very well,' Bathsheba replied. 'I will speak to the king for you.'

22King Solomon answered his mother, 'Why do you request Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? You might as well request the kingdom for him—for he is my elder brother—yes, for him and for Abiathar the priest and Joab son of Zeruiah!'
23Then King Solomon took an oath by the LORD: 'May God punish me ever so severely if Adonijah has not made this request at the cost of his own life!
24'And now, as surely as the LORD lives—the one who has established me, seated me on the throne of my father David, and made me a dynasty as He promised—Adonijah shall be put to death today!'
42While he was still speaking, Jonathan, son of Abiathar the priest, arrived. Adonijah said, "Come in, for you are a worthy man, and surely you bring good news."
43Jonathan replied to Adonijah, "No! Our lord King David has made Solomon king.
44The king sent Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites with him, and they have placed him on the king's mule.
14While you are still speaking to the king, I will come in after you and confirm your words."
13Now Adonijah, the son of Haggith, came to Bathsheba, the mother of Solomon. She asked, 'Do you come in peace?' And he replied, 'In peace.'

16For the king will hear me and deliver me from the hand of the man who seeks to destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God.'
42the king summoned Shimei and said to him, 'Did I not make you swear by the LORD and warn you, “On the day you leave and go anywhere, you can be certain you will die”? And you said to me, “What you say is good; I will obey.”
43Why then did you not keep your oath to the LORD and obey the command I gave you?'
8Solomon replied to God, "You have shown great lovingkindness to my father David and have made me king in his place.
37Just as the LORD was with my lord the king, so may He be with Solomon and make his throne even greater than the throne of my lord King David."
12Then the woman said, "Please let your servant speak a word to my lord the king." He said, "Speak."
16'Now, LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant David, my father, what You promised him, saying: "You shall never lack a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your sons are careful in their ways, walking in My law as you have walked before Me."
17Then David commanded all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon.
19The king asked, "Is the hand of Joab with you in all of this?" The woman answered, "As surely as you live, my lord the king, it is true. Your servant Joab instructed me and put all these words into the mouth of your servant."
