20But Saul said to Samuel, 'I did obey the LORD. I went on the mission the LORD assigned me. I brought back Agag, the king of Amalek, and I utterly destroyed the Amalekites.'
21But the people took sheep and cattle from the plunder—the best of what was devoted to destruction—to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal.
12Early in the morning, Samuel got up to meet Saul, but he was told, 'Saul went to Carmel and has set up a monument in his own honor. Then he turned and went down to Gilgal.'
13When Samuel reached him, Saul said, 'Blessed are you of the LORD! I have carried out the LORD's instruction.'
14But Samuel said, 'What is this sound of sheep and cattle that I hear?'
15Saul answered, 'They brought them from the Amalekites; the people spared the best of the sheep and cattle to sacrifice to the LORD your God, but the rest we have utterly destroyed.'

2This is what the LORD of Hosts says: 'I will punish Amalek for what they did to Israel, how they ambushed them on their way up from Egypt.'
3Now go and attack Amalek. Devote to destruction everything they have. Do not spare them; kill men and women, children and infants, oxen and sheep, camels and donkeys.'
31So Samuel went back with Saul, and Saul worshiped the LORD.
8He asked me, 'Who are you?' I answered him, 'I am an Amalekite.'
9He said to me, 'Please stand over me and kill me, for I am in agony and my life still lingers in me.'
12Then the people said to Samuel, "Who was it that said, 'Shall Saul reign over us?' Bring those men to us, and we will put them to death."
17The LORD has done as he spoke through me. He has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, to David.
18Because you did not obey the voice of the LORD or carry out his fierce wrath against Amalek, the LORD has done this to you today.
16The king said, 'You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and your whole family.'
