    1 After the death of Saul, David returned from defeating the Amalekites and stayed in Ziklag for two days.

    10 So I stood over him and killed him, because I knew he could not survive after he had fallen. I took the crown that was on his head and the bracelet that was on his arm, and I have brought them here to my lord.

    55 When Saul saw David going out to confront the Philistine, he asked Abner, the commander of his army, 'Abner, whose son is this young man?' Abner replied, 'As surely as you live, O king, I do not know.'

    56 The king said, 'Find out whose son this young man is.'

    57 As soon as David returned from killing the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul, with the Philistine's head still in his hand.

    58 Saul asked him, 'Whose son are you, young man?' David replied, 'I am the son of your servant Jesse of Bethlehem.'

    13 Saul said to him, 'Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, giving him bread and a sword and inquiring of God for him, so that he has risen against me to lie in wait, as he does today?'

    14 Ahimelech answered the king, 'Who among all your servants is as faithful as David, the king's son-in-law, captain of your bodyguard, and highly respected in your house?'

    17 Saul recognized David’s voice and said, "Is that your voice, my son David?" David replied, "It is my voice, my lord the king."

    18 And he added, "Why is my lord pursuing his servant? What have I done, and what wrong is in my hand?

    15 David said to Abner, "Aren't you a man? And who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not guarded your lord the king? Someone came to destroy your lord the king.

    28 When Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard him speaking to the men, he became angry with David and said, 'Why have you come down here? And who did you leave those few sheep with in the wilderness? I know your pride and the wickedness of your heart; you came down only to watch the battle.'

    29 David replied, 'What have I done now? Was it not just a question?'

  • 26 David said to the men standing with him, 'What will be done for the man who strikes down this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?'

  • 17 The LORD has done as he spoke through me. He has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, to David.

  • 7 David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, "Bring me the ephod." So Abiathar brought the ephod to David.

  • 18 And the LORD sent you on a mission, saying, 'Go and utterly destroy the sinful Amalekites; wage war against them until you completely wipe them out.'

  • 9 David got up afterward, went out of the cave, and called after Saul, 'My lord the king!' When Saul looked behind him, David bowed down with his face to the ground and paid homage.
