  • 2 Chr 26:5-9 : 5 He sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. As long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper. 6 He went out to war against the Philistines, broke down the walls of Gath, Jabneh, and Ashdod, and built cities near Ashdod and among the Philistines. 7 God helped him against the Philistines, the Arabs who lived in Gur-Baal, and the Meunites. 8 The Ammonites brought tribute to Uzziah, and his fame spread as far as the border of Egypt, because he became very powerful. 9 Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate, the Valley Gate, and the Angle, and he strengthened them. 10 He also built towers in the wilderness and dug many cisterns because he had large herds in the lowlands and the plains. He also had farmers and vinedressers in the hills and fertile lands, for he loved the soil. 11 Uzziah had an army of trained soldiers ready for battle. They were grouped according to their divisions and mustered by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the officer under the direction of Hananiah, one of the king's officials. 12 The total number of family leaders in charge of the fighting men was 2,600. 13 Under their command was an army of 307,500 men who could make war with great power to support the king against his enemies. 14 Uzziah provided the entire army with shields, spears, helmets, coats of armor, bows, and slings for stones. 15 In Jerusalem, Uzziah made devices designed by skilled men to be placed on the towers and corners for shooting arrows and large stones. His fame spread far and wide, for he was marvelously helped until he became powerful.
