The sons of Zeruiah were Abishai, Joab, and Asahel—three in total. 17 Abigail gave birth to Amasa, and the father of Amasa was Jether the Ishmaelite. 18 Caleb son of Hezron fathered children by Azubah his wife and Jerioth. Her sons were Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon. 19 When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath, and she bore him Hur. 20 Hur fathered Uri, and Uri fathered Bezalel. 21 Later, Hezron went to the daughter of Machir, the father of Gilead. He married her when he was sixty years old, and she bore him Segub. 22 Segub fathered Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead. 23 But Geshur and Aram captured Havvoth-jair from them, along with Kenath and its surrounding villages—sixty towns in total. All these were descendants of Machir, the father of Gilead. 24 After Hezron died in Caleb Ephrathah, Hezron's wife Abijah bore him Ashhur, the father of Tekoa. 25 The sons of Jerahmeel, the firstborn of Hezron, were Ram, his firstborn; Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah. 26 Jerahmeel also had another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam. 27 The sons of Ram, Jerahmeel's firstborn, were Maaz, Jamin, and Eker. 28 The sons of Onam were Shammai and Jada. These were the sons of Azel. 39 The sons of his brother Eshek were Ulam, his firstborn, Jeush the second, and Eliphelet the third. 40 The sons of Ulam were mighty warriors, archers. They had many sons and grandsons—150 in total. All these were descendants of Benjamin.

Then we will water the sheep.' 9 While he was still speaking with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she was a shepherdess. 10 When Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban, his mother's brother, and Laban’s sheep, he went up, rolled the stone away from the well’s mouth, and watered his uncle Laban’s sheep. 11 Then Jacob kissed Rachel and wept aloud. 12 Jacob told Rachel that he was a relative of her father and that he was Rebekah’s son. She ran and told her father. 13 When Laban heard the news about Jacob, his sister's son, he ran to meet him, embraced him, kissed him, and brought him to his house. Jacob told Laban everything that had happened. 14 Then Laban said to him, 'Surely you are my own flesh and blood.' Jacob stayed with him for a month. 15 Laban said to Jacob, 'Because you are my relative, should you work for me for nothing? Tell me, what should your wages be?' 16 Now Laban had two daughters: The name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. 17 Leah had tender eyes, but Rachel was beautiful in form and appearance. 18 Jacob loved Rachel, so he said, 'I will serve you seven years for Rachel, your younger daughter.' 19 Laban replied, 'It is better for me to give her to you than to another man. Stay here with me.' 20 So Jacob worked seven years for Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her. 21 Then Jacob said to Laban, 'Give me my wife, for my time is completed, and I want to be with her.' 22 So Laban gathered all the men of the place and held a feast. 23 But that evening, he took his daughter Leah and brought her to Jacob, and Jacob was with her. 24 Laban also gave his servant Zilpah to his daughter Leah as her maidservant. 25 In the morning, Jacob saw it was Leah. So he said to Laban, 'What is this you have done to me? Didn’t I serve you for Rachel? Why have you deceived me?' 26 Laban replied, 'It is not our custom here to give the younger daughter before the older one.' 27 'Complete this week’s celebration with Leah, and we will give you Rachel also, in return for another seven years of work.' 28 Jacob did so and completed the week with Leah. Then Laban gave him his daughter Rachel to be his wife. 29 Laban also gave his servant Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as her maidservant. 30 Jacob was also with Rachel, and he loved Rachel more than Leah. And he worked for Laban another seven years.

He stoops down, he crouches like a lion, and like a lioness—who dares to rouse him? 10 'The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come, and the obedience of the peoples shall be his.' 11 'He ties his foal to the vine, his donkey's colt to the choice vine; he washes his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes.' 12 'His eyes are darker than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk.' 13 'Zebulun will live by the seashore and become a haven for ships; his border will extend toward Sidon.' 14 'Issachar is a strong donkey lying down between two burdens.' 15 'When he sees how good his resting place is, and how pleasant the land is, he will bend his shoulder to the burden and submit to forced labor.' 16 Dan will provide justice for his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. 17 Dan will be a serpent by the roadside, a viper along the path, that bites the horse's heels so that its rider falls backward. 18 I wait for your salvation, Lord. 19 Gad will be attacked by a band of raiders, but he will attack them at their heels. 20 Asher's food will be rich, and he will provide delicacies fit for a king. 21 Naphtali is a doe set free that bears beautiful words. 22 Joseph is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine near a spring, whose branches climb over a wall. 23 With bitterness, archers attacked him; they shot at him with hostility. 24 But his bow remained steady, and his strong arms stayed limber, because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel. 25 Because of the God of your father, who helps you, because of the Almighty, who blesses you with blessings of the heavens above, blessings of the deep that lies below, blessings of the breast and womb. 26 The blessings of your father are greater than the blessings of the ancient mountains, than the bounty of the age-old hills. Let all these rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers. 27 Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; in the morning he devours the prey, in the evening he divides the plunder. 28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father said to them when he blessed them, giving each the blessing appropriate to him. 29 Then he gave them these instructions: 'I am about to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite. 30 The cave in the field of Machpelah, near Mamre in Canaan, which Abraham bought along with the field as a burial place from Ephron the Hittite. 31 There Abraham and his wife Sarah were buried, there Isaac and his wife Rebekah were buried, and there I buried Leah. 32 The field and the cave that is in it were purchased from the sons of Heth. 33 When Jacob had finished giving instructions to his sons, he drew his feet up into the bed, breathed his last, and was gathered to his people.
