They will come upon you in full measure, despite your many sorceries and the great power of your spells. 10 You felt secure in your wickedness and said, 'No one sees me.' Your wisdom and your knowledge have led you astray, and you said in your heart, 'I am, and there is no one besides me.' 11 But disaster will come upon you, and you will not know how to charm it away; calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off; and devastation will come upon you suddenly, without warning. 12 Persist then with your spells and your many sorceries, with which you have labored from your youth—perhaps you might succeed, perhaps you might cause terror. 13 You are wearied with your many counsels; let those who divide the heavens, those who gaze at the stars, those who announce the months, stand now and save you from what is coming upon you. 14 Behold, they are like stubble; fire consumes them. Their enemies said, 'We are not guilty, for they sinned against the LORD, their true pasture and the hope of their ancestors—the LORD.' 8 Flee from Babylon, leave the land of the Chaldeans, and be like male goats leading the flock. 9 For behold, I am stirring up and bringing against Babylon a coalition of great nations from the north. They will line up for battle against her; from there she will be captured. Their arrows are like skilled warriors; they will not return empty-handed. 10 Chaldea will become plunder; all who plunder her will be satisfied,' declares the LORD. 11 'Because you rejoice and celebrate, you who plunder my inheritance; because you frolic like a threshing heifer and neigh like stallions,' 12 your mother will be greatly ashamed; she who bore you will be disgraced. Behold, she will become the least of the nations—a wilderness, a dry and arid land. 13 Because of the LORD's wrath, she will not be inhabited but will become completely desolate. Everyone who passes by Babylon will be appalled and will scoff at all her wounds. 14 Take your positions around Babylon, all you who draw the bow. Shoot at her! Spare no arrows, for she has sinned against the LORD. 15 Raise a shout against her on every side! She has surrendered; her towers have fallen, her walls are torn down. This is the vengeance of the LORD. Take vengeance on her; do to her as she has done to others. 16 Cut off the sower from Babylon, and the one who handles the sickle at harvest time. Because of the oppressing sword, let each one return to his own people, and let every one flee to his own land. 17 Israel is a scattered sheep chased by lions. The first to devour him was the king of Assyria; the last to gnaw at his bones was Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. 18 Therefore this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'I will punish the king of Babylon and his land just as I punished the king of Assyria.' 19 I will restore Israel to his pasture, and he will graze on Carmel and Bashan; his soul will be satisfied on the hills of Ephraim and Gilead. 20 In those days and at that time, declares the LORD, the guilt of Israel will be sought, but there will be none; and the sins of Judah, but none will be found, for I will forgive those I leave as a remnant. 21 Attack the land of Merathaim and those who live in Pekod! Pursue them, kill them completely, and devote them to destruction, declares the LORD. Do everything I have commanded you. 22 The sound of battle is in the land—a great destruction. 23 How the hammer of the whole earth has been cut down and broken! Babylon has become an object of horror among the nations. 24 I set a trap for you, Babylon, and you were caught before you knew it. You were found and captured because you challenged the LORD. 25 The LORD has opened His armory and brought out the weapons of His wrath, for the Sovereign LORD of Hosts has a task to accomplish in the land of the Chaldeans. 26 Come against her from the farthest borders; open her granaries. Heap her up like piles of grain and destroy her completely. Let nothing be left of her. 27 Slaughter all her young bulls; let them go down to the slaughter. Woe to them, for their day has come, the time of their punishment. 28 Listen to the voice of those fleeing and escaping from the land of Babylon, proclaiming in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance for His temple. 29 Summon archers against Babylon, all who draw the bow. Encamp around her on every side, and let no one escape. Repay her according to her deeds; do to her as she has done. For she has defied the LORD, the Holy One of Israel. 30 Therefore, her young men will fall in her streets, and all her soldiers will perish on that day, declares the LORD. 31 Behold, I am against you, O arrogant one, declares the Sovereign LORD of Hosts, for your day has come, the time for Me to punish you. 32 The arrogant one will stumble and fall, and no one will help him up. I will set fire to his cities, and it will devour all around him. 33 This is what the LORD of Hosts says: The people of Israel and the people of Judah are oppressed together. All their captors hold them fast and refuse to let them go. 34 But their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of Hosts is His name. He will vigorously defend their cause to bring rest to the land but unrest to the inhabitants of Babylon. 35 A sword is against the Chaldeans, declares the LORD, against the inhabitants of Babylon, against her officials and wise men. 36 A sword is against her diviners, and they will act foolishly. A sword is against her warriors, and they will be shattered. 37 A sword is against her horses and her chariots, and against all the mixed multitude in her midst. They will become like women. A sword is against her treasures, and they will be plundered. 38 A drought is upon her waters; they will dry up. For it is a land of idols, and they go mad over terrifying images. 39 Therefore, desert creatures and hyenas will dwell there, and ostriches will inhabit it. It will never again be inhabited or settled from generation to generation. 40 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah along with their neighbors, declares the LORD, no one will live there, and no human being will dwell in it. 41 Behold, a people is coming from the north; a great nation and many kings are being stirred up from the farthest parts of the earth. 42 They hold bows and spears; they are cruel and show no mercy. Their roar is like the roaring sea, and they ride on horses, arrayed like men ready for battle against you, Daughter of Babylon. 43 The king of Babylon has heard the report about them, and his hands hang limp. Anguish grips him, pain like that of a woman in labor. 44 Behold, like a lion coming up from the thickets of the Jordan to a secure pasture, I will drive them away suddenly from it. I will appoint whoever is chosen for it. For who is like me? Who can summon me? And what shepherd can stand against me? 45 Therefore, hear the counsel of the LORD that He has purposed against Babylon and the plans He has devised against the land of the Chaldeans. Surely, the little ones of the flock will be dragged away; surely, their pasture will be appalled at their fate. 46 At the sound of Babylon’s capture, the earth will quake, and the outcry will be heard among the nations. 1 This is what the Lord says: 'Behold, I am stirring up a destructive wind against Babylon and against the inhabitants of Leb-qamai.' 2 I will send strangers against Babylon to scatter her and empty her land, for they will surround her on the day of calamity. 3 Do not let the archer bend his bow or put on his armor. Do not spare her young men; completely destroy her entire army. 4 The slain will fall in the land of the Chaldeans, those pierced by the sword in her streets. 5 For Israel and Judah have not been forsaken by their God, the Lord of Hosts, though their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel. 6 Flee from Babylon! Save your lives! Do not perish in her punishment, for it is the time of the Lord's vengeance; He will repay her what she has done. 7 Babylon was a golden cup in the hand of the Lord, intoxicating the whole earth. The nations drank her wine; therefore, they have gone mad. 8 Suddenly Babylon has fallen and been shattered. Wail for her! Take balm for her pain; perhaps she can be healed. 9 We tried to heal Babylon, but she could not be healed. Leave her, and let each one go to his own land, for her judgment has reached to the heavens and has risen to the skies. 10 The Lord has brought about our vindication. Come, let us declare in Zion the work of the Lord our God. 11 Sharpen the arrows; fill the quivers! The Lord has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because His purpose is against Babylon to destroy her. This is the Lord's vengeance, the vengeance for His temple. 12 Raise a banner against the walls of Babylon! Strengthen the guard, post the watchmen, prepare ambushes, for the Lord has planned and carried out what He purposed against the inhabitants of Babylon. 13 You who dwell by many waters, rich in treasures, your end has come, the measure of your covetousness. 14 The Lord of Hosts has sworn by Himself, 'Surely, I will fill you with men as numerous as locusts, and they will raise a shout of triumph over you.' 15 He made the earth by His power, established the world by His wisdom, and stretched out the heavens by His understanding. 16 When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain and brings forth wind from His storehouses. 17 Every human is senseless, lacking knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols, for his images are false, and there is no breath in them. 18 They are worthless, a work of delusion; at the time of their punishment, they will perish. 19 The Portion of Jacob is not like these, for He is the Creator of all things, and Israel is the tribe of His inheritance; the Lord of Hosts is His name. 20 You are My war club, My weapon of battle: with you, I shatter nations, and with you, I destroy kingdoms. 21 With you, I shatter horse and rider; with you, I shatter chariot and driver. 22 With you, I shatter man and woman; with you, I shatter the old and the young; with you, I shatter the young man and the maiden. 23 With you, I shatter shepherd and flock; with you, I shatter farmer and oxen; with you, I shatter governors and officials. 24 Before your eyes, I will repay Babylon and all the inhabitants of Chaldea for all the evil they have done in Zion, declares the Lord. 25 Behold, I am against you, the destroying mountain, declares the Lord, you who destroy the whole earth. I will stretch out My hand against you, roll you off the cliffs, and make you a burned-out mountain. 26 No stone will be taken from you for a cornerstone or foundation, for you will be desolate forever, declares the Lord. 27 Raise a banner in the land! Blow the trumpet among the nations! Prepare the nations for battle against her. Summon the kingdoms: Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz. Appoint a commander against her. Bring up horses like swarming locusts! 28 Prepare the nations for battle against her—the kings of the Medes, their governors, all their officials, and the whole land of their dominion. 29 The earth trembles and writhes because the Lord’s plans against Babylon stand firm—to make the land of Babylon a desolate wasteland, without an inhabitant. 30 The warriors of Babylon have stopped fighting; they remain in their strongholds. Their strength has failed; they have become like women. Her dwellings are set on fire; the bars of her gates are broken. 31 One courier runs to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to announce to the king of Babylon that his entire city is captured. 32 The river crossings have been seized, the marshes have been set on fire, and the soldiers are terrified. 33 This is what the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time it is trampled; in a little while her harvest time will come.' 34 Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has devoured me; he has crushed me. He has made me an empty vessel. He has swallowed me like a monster; he filled his belly with my delicacies. He has rinsed me out. 35 May the violence done to me and my flesh be upon Babylon, says the inhabitant of Zion. May my blood be on the inhabitants of Chaldea, says Jerusalem. 36 Therefore, this is what the Lord says: 'Behold, I will defend your cause and take vengeance for you. I will dry up her sea and make her fountains dry.' 37 Babylon will become a heap of ruins, a haunt for jackals, a horror and an object of scorn, without inhabitant. 38 They will roar together like young lions; they will growl like lion cubs. 39 While they are heated up, I will prepare their feast and make them drunk, so they will revel and then sleep a perpetual sleep, never to wake up, declares the Lord. 40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with male goats. 41 'How Sheshach has been captured, the glory of the whole earth seized! How Babylon has become a horror among the nations! 42 The sea has risen over Babylon; she is covered by its roaring waves. 43 Her cities have become a desolation, a dry and barren land where no one lives, and through which no man passes. 44 'I will punish Bel in Babylon and make him spew out what he has swallowed. The nations will no longer stream to him, and even the wall of Babylon will fall. 45 Come out of her, My people! Save your lives, each of you, from the fierce anger of the Lord. 46 Do not let your heart grow faint, and do not be afraid of the rumors heard in the land. One year a rumor will come, and the next year another rumor—violence in the land and ruler against ruler. 47 Therefore, behold, the days are coming when I will punish the idols of Babylon. Her whole land will be disgraced, and all her slain will fall within her. 48 Then the heavens and the earth and all that is in them will shout for joy over Babylon, because out of the north destroyers will come against her, declares the Lord. 49 Babylon must fall because of the slain of Israel, just as the slain of all the earth have fallen because of Babylon. 50 You who have escaped the sword, go! Do not linger. Remember the Lord from afar, and let Jerusalem come to your mind. 51 We are ashamed because we have heard reproach; disgrace has covered our faces because foreigners have entered the holy places of the Lord's house. 52 'Therefore, behold, the days are coming,' declares the Lord, 'when I will punish her idols, and throughout her land the wounded will groan.' 53 Even if Babylon ascends to the heavens and fortifies her lofty stronghold, from Me destroyers will come against her, declares the Lord. 54 The sound of a cry comes from Babylon, great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans. 55 For the Lord is laying Babylon waste and silencing her loud noise. Her waves roar like mighty waters; the sound of their tumult resounds. 56 For a destroyer has come against Babylon; her warriors are captured, their bows are broken. For the Lord is a God of retribution; He will fully repay. 57 I will make her officials, wise men, governors, commanders, and warriors drunk, and they will sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake, declares the King, whose name is the Lord of Hosts. 58 This is what the Lord of Hosts says: The broad walls of Babylon will be utterly demolished, and her high gates burned with fire. The peoples labor in vain; the nations exhaust themselves only to fuel the flames. 59 This is the word that Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. Seraiah was the quartermaster. 60 Jeremiah wrote in a single scroll all the disaster that would come upon Babylon—all these words that are written against Babylon. 61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, 'When you get to Babylon, see that you read all these words aloud.' 62 Then say, 'O Lord, You have said concerning this place that You will cut it off, so that no one will dwell in it—neither man nor beast—but it will lie desolate forever.' 63 When you finish reading this scroll, tie a stone to it and throw it into the Euphrates. 64 Then you shall say, 'This is how Babylon will sink and never rise again because of the disaster I will bring upon her. Her people will grow weary.' This is the end of Jeremiah's words.

Those who dwell on the earth, whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will marvel when they see the beast, because it was, is not, and yet is. 9 This calls for a mind with wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. 10 They are also seven kings: five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. When he does come, he must remain for only a short time. 11 The beast that was, and is not, is an eighth, but it belongs to the seven, and it goes to destruction. 12 The ten horns you saw are ten kings, who have not yet received a kingdom, but they will receive authority as kings for one hour along with the beast. 13 These kings have one purpose, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. 14 They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will conquer them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings. Those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful. 15 Then he said to me, 'The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.' 16 The ten horns you saw, and the beast, will hate the prostitute. They will leave her desolate and naked, devour her flesh, and burn her with fire. 17 For God has put it into their hearts to carry out His purpose by agreeing to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. 18 And the woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.
• Isa 17:1 : 1 This is an oracle concerning Damascus: Behold, Damascus will no longer be a city; it will become a heap of ruins.
• Isa 19:1 : 1 An oracle concerning Egypt: Look, the LORD is riding on a swift cloud and is coming to Egypt. The idols of Egypt tremble before Him, and the hearts of the Egyptians melt within them.
• Isa 21:1-9 : 1 This is a prophecy about the wilderness by the sea: Like whirlwinds sweeping through the Negev, it comes from the desert, from a dreadful land. 2 A harsh vision has been shown to me: The betrayer betrays, and the destroyer devastates. Go up, Elam! Surround, Media! I have put an end to all her groaning. 3 Therefore my body is filled with trembling; pangs have seized me, like the pangs of a woman in labor. I am bent over by what I heard; I am dismayed by what I saw. 4 My heart staggers; terror overwhelms me. The twilight I longed for has been turned into trembling for me. 5 Prepare the table, set a watchman in the watchtower, eat and drink. Rise up, you princes, and anoint the shield! 6 For this is what the Lord said to me: 'Go, station a watchman, and let him report what he sees.' 7 When he sees chariots with pairs of horsemen, riders on donkeys, riders on camels, let him carefully listen, paying close attention. 8 Then he called out, 'Lion! My Lord, I stand continually on the watchtower by day, and I stay at my guard post through all the nights.' 9 And behold, here comes a chariot of men, with pairs of horsemen. And he answered, saying, 'Fallen, fallen is Babylon! All the carved images of her gods are shattered to the ground.' 10 O my threshed people and my people crushed on the threshing floor, what I have heard from the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, I have declared to you. 11 This is a prophecy concerning Dumah: Someone is calling to me from Seir, saying, 'Watchman, what is left of the night? Watchman, how much of the night has passed?'
• Isa 21:13 : 13 This is a prophecy about Arabia: You will camp in the thickets of Arabia, O caravans of Dedanites.
• Isa 22:1 : 1 This is an oracle concerning the Valley of Vision: What is wrong with you now, that you have all gone up to the rooftops?
• Isa 22:25-23:1 : 25 In that day,” declares the LORD of Hosts, “the peg that was driven into the firm place will be removed; it will be cut down and fall, and the load hanging on it will be destroyed. For the LORD has spoken. 1 This is a message concerning Tyre: Wail, you ships of Tarshish, for your harbor has been destroyed. The news has reached them from the land of Cyprus.
• Isa 43:14 : 14 This is what the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, says: 'For your sake, I will send to Babylon and bring down as fugitives all of them, even the Chaldeans, in the ships of their rejoicing.'
• Isa 44:1-2 : 1 But now listen, Jacob my servant, and Israel whom I have chosen. 2 This is what the LORD says—your Maker and the One who formed you from the womb, who helps you: 'Do not fear, my servant Jacob, and Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.'
• Isa 13:19 : 19 Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms, the glory of the pride of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them.
• Isa 14:4-9 : 4 you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon: How the oppressor has ceased! Beneath you is a bed of maggots, and worms cover you. 12 How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the ground, you who laid low the nations. 13 You said in your heart, 'I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God. I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the north.' 14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High. 15 But you will be brought down to Sheol, to the depths of the pit. 16 Those who see you will stare at you; they will contemplate you, saying, 'Is this the man who made the earth tremble and shook the kingdoms?' 17 Who made the world a desert and destroyed its cities, who refused to release his prisoners to their homes?' 18 All the kings of the nations lie in glory, each in his own tomb, 19 but you are cast out of your grave like a rejected branch, clothed with the slain, those pierced by the sword, who go down to the stones of the pit, like a corpse trampled underfoot. 20 You will not be joined with them in burial, because you have destroyed your land and slain your people. The offspring of evildoers will never be remembered. 21 Prepare a place of slaughter for his sons because of the iniquity of their fathers. Let them not rise to possess the land or fill the face of the earth with cities. 22 'I will rise up against them,' declares the LORD of Hosts, 'and I will cut off from Babylon her name and survivors, her offspring and descendants,' declares the LORD. 23 I will make her a possession for hedgehogs and swamps of water, and I will sweep her away with the broom of destruction,' declares the LORD of Hosts.
