    33Then Pilate went back inside the governor’s headquarters, summoned Jesus, and asked him, 'Are you the King of the Jews?'

    4Pilate went outside again and said to them, "Look, I am bringing him out to you so that you may know that I find no basis for a charge against him."

    5Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, "Behold the man!"

    6When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they shouted, "Crucify him! Crucify him!" Pilate responded, "Take him yourselves and crucify him; I find no charge against him."

    7The Jews answered him, "We have a law, and according to the law he ought to die because he made himself the Son of God."

    8When Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid.

    9He went back into the governor's palace and asked Jesus, "Where are you from?" But Jesus gave him no answer.

    10Pilate said to him, "Are you not speaking to me? Do you not know that I have the authority to crucify you and the authority to release you?"

    11Jesus answered, "You would have no authority over me unless it had been given to you from above. Therefore, the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.

    12Because of this, Pilate tried to release him. But the Jews kept shouting, "If you release this man, you are not a friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar."

    13So Pilate, when he heard this statement, brought Jesus out and sat on the judgment seat at a place called The Stone Pavement, which in Aramaic is called Gabbatha.

    14It was the day of Preparation for the Passover, about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews, "Here is your king!"

    15But they shouted, "Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your king?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar."
