1 Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time, saying,
2 “Get up, go to the great city of Nineveh, and proclaim the message that I tell you.”

8 Then they said to him, "Please tell us! Who is responsible for causing this trouble for us? What is your occupation, and where do you come from? What is your country, and of what people are you?"

2 And he prayed to the LORD, saying, 'O LORD, isn’t this what I said while I was still in my own land? That is why I tried to flee to Tarshish, for I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from sending calamity.
6 I will throw filth on you, treat you with contempt, and make you a spectacle.
7 Everyone who sees you will flee from you, saying, 'Nineveh is devastated! Who will mourn for her? Where can I find anyone to comfort you?'
8 Are you better than Thebes, situated by the Nile with water around her? The river was her defense, the waters her wall.

17 But you, prepare yourself; rise and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them.
8 When the sun rose, God appointed a scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on Jonah’s head so that he grew faint. He wished to die and said, 'It is better for me to die than to live.'
9 But God said to Jonah, 'Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?' And Jonah replied, 'It is right for me to be angry, even to the point of death.'
10 But the LORD said, 'You cared about the plant, which you did not labor for or make grow; it appeared in the night and perished in the night.
11 So should I not care about Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than 120,000 people who do not know their right hand from their left, and also many animals?'
30 For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so also the Son of Man will be a sign to this generation.
11 Then they said to him, "What should we do to you so that the sea will calm down for us?" For the sea was growing more and more tempestuous.
12 Even now, declares the LORD, return to me with all your heart, with fasting, weeping, and mourning.
