    7But at dawn the next day, God appointed a worm, which attacked the plant so that it withered.

    8When the sun rose, God appointed a scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on Jonah’s head so that he grew faint. He wished to die and said, 'It is better for me to die than to live.'

    9But God said to Jonah, 'Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?' And Jonah replied, 'It is right for me to be angry, even to the point of death.'

    10But the LORD said, 'You cared about the plant, which you did not labor for or make grow; it appeared in the night and perished in the night.

    1The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai, saying,

    2Arise, go to the great city of Nineveh, and proclaim against it, because their wickedness has come up before me.

    3But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa, found a ship going to Tarshish, paid the fare, and boarded it to go with them to Tarshish, away from the Lord.

    4But the Lord hurled a great wind upon the sea, and there was a mighty storm on the sea, so that the ship was about to break apart.

    5The sailors were afraid, and each cried out to his own god. They threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone down to the inner part of the ship and had lain down and was fast asleep.

    14Then they cried out to the Lord, saying, "Please, Lord, do not let us perish for taking this man's life, and do not hold us accountable for innocent blood. For you, Lord, have done as you pleased."

    15They picked up Jonah and threw him into the sea, and the sea stopped its raging.

    4Jonah began to go into the city, walking a journey of one day, and he proclaimed, saying, “In forty days Nineveh will be overturned!”

    7And they said to one another, "Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity that has come upon us." So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.

    8Then they said to him, "Please tell us! Who is responsible for causing this trouble for us? What is your occupation, and where do you come from? What is your country, and of what people are you?"
