Joshua 9:22
Then Joshua summoned them and said, 'Why did you deceive us by saying, “We live far away from you,” while in fact you live among us?'

8They replied to Joshua, “We are your servants.” But Joshua said to them, “Who are you, and where do you come from?”
9They answered him, “Your servants have come from a very distant land because of the name of the LORD your God. For we have heard of His fame and all He did in Egypt,
19But all the leaders said to the assembly, 'We have sworn an oath to them by the LORD, the God of Israel, and now we cannot touch them.'
20This is what we will do to them: We will let them live so that no wrath will fall on us for breaking the oath we swore to them.
21They also said, 'Let them live, but let them be woodcutters and water carriers for the entire assembly,' just as the leaders had directed.
15Then Joshua made a peace treaty with them to let them live, and the leaders of the assembly swore an oath to them.
16After three days, once they had made a treaty with them, the Israelites learned that these people were actually their neighbors, living among them.
11So our elders and all the inhabitants of our land told us, ‘Take provisions for the journey and go to meet them. Tell them: We are your servants; now make a treaty with us.’

9Joshua said to the Israelites, 'Come here and listen to the words of the LORD your God.'
10Joshua said, 'By this you will know that the living God is among you and that He will surely drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites.'
9The Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of this and surround us. They will cut off our name from the earth. And then, what will you do for your great name?
15Joshua and all Israel pretended to be beaten before them and fled toward the wilderness.
16All the people of Ai were summoned to pursue them. They chased after Joshua and were drawn away from the city.
16They answered Joshua, saying, “We will do everything you have commanded us, and we will go wherever you send us.
12To the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said:
22But to the two men who had spied out the land, Joshua said, 'Go to the house of the prostitute and bring her out, along with everyone who belongs to her, just as you swore to her.'
13Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua approached him and asked, "Are you for us or for our enemies?"
10Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people:
9So Joshua sent them out, and they went to the ambush site, remaining between Bethel and Ai, west of Ai. Joshua spent that night among the people.

2Joshua called all Israel together—its elders, leaders, judges, and officials—and said to them, 'I have grown old and am well along in years.'
11Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, and they have put them with their own possessions.
4He commanded them, saying, "Behold, you are to lie in ambush against the city, behind it. Do not go far from the city, but all of you stay ready."
23Then the two men came down from the hill country, crossed over, and went to Joshua son of Nun. They reported to him all that had happened to them.
