7Joshua said, "Alas, Sovereign Lord, why did you bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan!
8Pardon me, O Lord, what can I say now that Israel has turned its back and fled from its enemies?
9The Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of this and surround us. They will cut off our name from the earth. And then, what will you do for your great name?
10The Lord said to Joshua, "Stand up! Why are you down on your face?
6The LORD said to Joshua, 'Do not be afraid of them, for by this time tomorrow I will deliver all of them slain before Israel. You are to hamstring their horses and burn their chariots in the fire.'
7So Joshua and all his warriors came against them suddenly at the waters of Merom and attacked them.
7And he commanded the people, 'Advance and march around the city, with the armed men going ahead of the ark of the LORD.'

9Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
10Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people:
11“Go through the camp and command the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for in three days you will cross the Jordan to take possession of the land the LORD your God is giving you to inherit.’”
12To the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said:
9Joshua said to the Israelites, 'Come here and listen to the words of the LORD your God.'
10Joshua said, 'By this you will know that the living God is among you and that He will surely drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites.'
11'Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is passing ahead of you into the Jordan.'
18The Lord said to Joshua, "Stretch out the javelin in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand." So Joshua stretched out the javelin in his hand toward the city.
12On the day the LORD gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua spoke to the LORD in the presence of Israel: “Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.”
3You have seen everything the LORD your God has done to all the nations before you, for the LORD your God is the one who fought for you.
1When all the kings west of the Jordan—those in the hill country, the lowlands, and along the entire coast of the Mediterranean Sea in the territory opposite Lebanon—heard about this, the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites,
12He took about five thousand men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, west of the city.
13The people positioned all the camp to the north of the city, while a rear guard was placed to the west of the city. That night, Joshua went into the valley.
3Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel.
24They answered Joshua, 'Your servants were clearly told how the LORD your God had commanded His servant Moses to give you this entire land and destroy all its inhabitants before you. So we feared greatly for our lives because of you, and that is why we did this.'
25Now we are in your hands. Do to us whatever seems good and right to you.
13About forty thousand armed for battle crossed over before the LORD to the plains of Jericho, ready for war.
