  • Num 21:21-35 : 21 Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying, 22 'Let us pass through your land. We will not turn aside into any field or vineyard, nor drink water from any well. We will travel along the King’s Highway until we pass through your territory.' 23 But Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his territory. He gathered all his people and went out to confront Israel in the wilderness; he came to Jahaz and fought with Israel. 24 Israel defeated him with the sword and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, as far as the Ammonites, for the border of the Ammonites was fortified. 25 Israel captured all the cities of the Amorites and settled in them, including Heshbon and all its villages. 26 Heshbon was the city of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab and captured all his land up to the Arnon. 27 That is why the poets said: 'Come to Heshbon, let it be rebuilt, let Sihon’s city be restored.' 28 For fire went out from Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon. It consumed Ar of Moab, the rulers of the high places of the Arnon. 29 Woe to you, Moab! You have been destroyed, O people of Chemosh! He has given up his sons as fugitives and his daughters as captives to Sihon, king of the Amorites. 30 But we overthrew them; Heshbon as far as Dibon is destroyed. We devastated Nophah, which reaches to Medeba. 31 So Israel lived in the land of the Amorites. 32 Moses sent men to spy out Jazer, and they captured its surrounding settlements, driving out the Amorites who were there. 33 They turned and went up by the way to Bashan. Og, king of Bashan, came out with all his people to meet them in battle at Edrei. 34 But the LORD said to Moses, 'Do not be afraid of him, for I have given him into your hand, along with all his people and his land. Do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon.' 35 So they struck down Og, his sons, and all his people, leaving no survivors. Then they took possession of his land.
  • Deut 2:26-36 : 26 Then I sent messengers from the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying, 27 'Let me pass through your land. I will travel only on the road and will turn neither to the right nor to the left. 28 You can sell me food for silver so that I may eat, and give me water for silver so that I may drink. Only let me pass through on foot— 29 as the descendants of Esau who live in Seir and the Moabites who live in Ar did for me—until I cross the Jordan into the land that the LORD our God is giving us.' 30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass through his land, for the LORD your God had hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, so that He might deliver him into your hands, as has now happened. 31 Then the LORD said to me, 'See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his land to you. Begin to take possession of it, that you may inherit his land.' 32 So Sihon came out with all his people to meet us in battle at Jahaz. 33 And the LORD our God delivered him over to us, and we struck him down along with his sons and his whole army. 34 At that time we captured all his cities and completely destroyed every city, including the men, women, and children; we left no survivors. 35 Only the livestock and the plunder from the cities we took as spoil for ourselves. 36 From Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Valley, and from the city in the valley, even to Gilead, not one city was too strong for us. The LORD our God gave them all into our hands.
  • Deut 3:1-9 : 1 Then we turned and traveled on the road to Bashan. Og, king of Bashan, came out with all his people to confront us in battle at Edrei. 2 The LORD said to me: 'Do not be afraid of him, for I have handed him over to you along with all his people and his land. Do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon.' 3 So the LORD our God also gave us Og, king of Bashan, and all his people. We struck them down until no survivors remained. 4 We captured all his cities at that time—there was not a city we did not take from them—sixty cities in all, the entire region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 5 All these cities were fortified with high walls, gates, and bars, besides many unwalled rural towns. 6 We completely destroyed them, just as we had done to Sihon, king of Heshbon. In every city, we destroyed the men, women, and children. 7 But we kept all the livestock and the spoils of the cities for ourselves. 8 At that time, we took the land from the two Amorite kings across the Jordan, from the Arnon Gorge to Mount Hermon. 9 (The Sidonians call Hermon 'Sirion,' and the Amorites call it 'Senir.') 10 We captured all the cities of the plateau, all of Gilead, and all of Bashan as far as Salecah and Edrei—cities of Og's kingdom in Bashan. 11 For only Og, king of Bashan, remained from the remnant of the Rephaim. Look, his bed was made of iron and is still in Rabbah of the Ammonites. It is nine cubits long and four cubits wide, according to the standard cubit. 12 At that time, we took possession of this land, from Aroer on the edge of the Arnon Valley, and half of the hill country of Gilead with its towns, and I gave them to the Reubenites and the Gadites. 13 The rest of Gilead and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to half the tribe of Manasseh. The entire region of Argob in Bashan is called the land of the Rephaim. 14 Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, took the whole region of Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites. He named the villages of Bashan after himself, calling them Havvoth Jair, and they remain so to this day. 15 I gave Gilead to Machir. 16 To the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave the land extending from Gilead to the Arnon Valley, with the valley as the border, as far as the Jabbok River, the border of the Ammonites. 17 The Arabah, the Jordan, and its border, from Chinnereth to the east side of the Dead Sea (the Sea of the Arabah), beneath the slopes of Pisgah, was also included.
  • Josh 13:8-9 : 8 The other half-tribe, along with the Reubenites and the Gadites, has already received the inheritance that Moses gave them beyond the Jordan to the east, as the servant of the LORD had assigned to them. 9 Their territory extended from Aroer on the edge of the Arnon Valley, including the city in the middle of the valley, and the entire plateau from Medeba to Dibon. 10 It also included all the cities of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, up to the border of the Ammonites. 11 Additionally, it included Gilead, the territory of the Geshurites and Maachathites, all Mount Hermon, and all Bashan as far as Salcah. 12 This encompassed the entire kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei, and was the last of the Rephaim. Moses defeated them and dispossessed them.
