    2At the appointed time, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.

    6Finally, he had one left: a beloved son. He sent him last of all, saying, 'They will respect my son.'

    8So they took him, killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.

    9What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy those farmers, and give the vineyard to others.

    33Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and went away.

    34When the time came to harvest the fruit, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit.

    35But the tenants seized his servants. They beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.

    36Again, he sent other servants, more than the first group, but they treated them the same way.

    37Finally, he sent his son to them. 'They will respect my son,' he said.

    38But when the tenant farmers saw the son, they said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and take his inheritance!'

    40Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenant farmers?

    41They said to him, 'He will bring those wretches to a miserable end and lease the vineyard to other farmers who will give him the fruit at the proper times.'

    42Jesus said to them, 'Have you never read in the Scriptures: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This came from the Lord and is wonderful in our eyes?

    43Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruit.
