Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying:

The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.

He sent his servants to call those who had been invited to the wedding, but they refused to come.

Again, he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited: Look, I have prepared my banquet; my oxen and fattened animals have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.'

But they paid no attention and went away, one to his field, another to his business.

The rest seized his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.

The king was enraged. He sent his army, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding banquet is ready, but those invited were not worthy.'

Go therefore to the main roads, and invite everyone you find to the wedding feast.

So those servants went out into the roads and gathered all they found, both good and bad. The wedding hall was filled with guests.

But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes.

He said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?' The man was speechless.
