37We agreed to bring the firstborn of our sons and of our livestock, as written in the Law, and the firstborn of our herds and flocks to the house of our God, to the priests ministering there.

18When that year was over, they came to him the next year and said, 'We cannot hide from our lord that our money is gone and our livestock has been given to you. There is nothing left for our lord but our bodies and our land.'
19'Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land in exchange for food, and we will be servants to Pharaoh. Give us seed that we may live and not die, and that the land may not become desolate.'
4For my people and I have been sold to be destroyed, killed, and annihilated. If we had merely been sold as slaves, I would have remained silent, because no harm to the king would justify disturbing him in this way."

20Mighty kings have ruled over Jerusalem and exercised authority over the entire region beyond the River, and taxes, tribute, and customs were paid to them.
7'From the days of our ancestors until now, we have been steeped in great guilt. Because of our sins, we, our kings and priests, have been handed over to the kings of the lands, to the sword, captivity, plunder, and humiliation, as it is today.'

35We cast lots to determine when our families—the priests, Levites, and the people—would bring wood to the house of our God at appointed times each year, to burn on the altar of the LORD our God as it is written in the Law.
11'See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession you gave us as an inheritance.'
