  • 1 Kgs 21:7-9 : 7 Jezebel, his wife, said to him, 'Is this how you act as king over Israel? Get up, eat, and cheer up. I’ll get you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.' 8 So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name, sealed them with his seal, and sent them to the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth’s city. 9 In those letters she wrote, 'Proclaim a fast and seat Naboth in a prominent place among the people.' 10 Then seat two scoundrels opposite him and have them accuse him, saying, 'You have cursed God and the king.' Then take him out and stone him to death. 11 So the elders and nobles of this city, who lived there, carried out Jezebel’s instructions, just as she had written in the letters she sent them. 12 They proclaimed a fast and seated Naboth in a prominent place among the people. 13 Two worthless men came and sat opposite Naboth. They testified against him before the people, saying, 'Naboth has cursed God and the king.' So they took him outside the city, stoned him to death, and he died. 14 Then they sent word to Jezebel, saying, 'Naboth has been stoned and is dead.' 15 As soon as Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, she said to Ahab, 'Get up and take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to sell to you for silver. Naboth is no longer alive, but dead.' 16 When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up and went down to take possession of Naboth’s vineyard. 17 Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 18 'Get up and go down to meet Ahab, king of Israel, who rules in Samaria. He is now in Naboth’s vineyard, where he has gone to take possession of it. 19 Speak to him and say, “Thus says the LORD: Have you murdered and also taken possession?” Then say to him, “Thus says the LORD: In the place where the dogs licked up Naboth’s blood, the dogs will also lick up your blood—yes, yours.”' 20 Ahab said to Elijah, 'So, have you found me, my enemy?' 'I have found you,' he answered, 'because you have devoted yourself to doing evil in the eyes of the LORD.' 21 'This is what the LORD says: I am bringing disaster on you. I will sweep away your descendants and cut off every male in your household, both slave and free, in Israel. 22 I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah, because you have provoked My anger and have caused Israel to sin.' 23 And concerning Jezebel, the LORD also says: 'Dogs will devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.' 24 'Anyone who belongs to Ahab and dies in the city, the dogs will eat; and anyone who dies in the field, the birds of the heavens will eat.' 25 There was no one like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the LORD, urged on by his wife Jezebel. 26 He acted in the most detestable way by following idols, just as the Amorites had done, whom the LORD drove out before the Israelites. 27 When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, and fasted. He lay in sackcloth and went about meekly. 28 Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 29 'Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring disaster during his lifetime; but in the days of his son, I will bring disaster on his house.'
