  • Hos 7:13 : 13 Woe to them because they have strayed from me! Destruction to them because they have rebelled against me! I long to redeem them, but they speak lies about me.
  • Jer 9:2-6 : 2 They bend their tongues like a bow to shoot lies, not for truth do they grow strong in the land; they go from one evil to another, and they do not know me, declares the Lord. 3 Beware of your neighbor; do not trust even a brother. Every brother utterly deceives, and every friend spreads slander. 4 Each one deceives his neighbor, and they do not speak the truth. They have trained their tongues to speak lies and exhaust themselves with wrongdoing. 5 You live in the midst of deceit, and because of deceit, they refuse to know me, declares the Lord. 6 Therefore, this is what the Lord of Hosts says: Behold, I will refine them and test them, for what else can I do because of the sin of my people?
  • Mic 2:1-2 : 1 Woe to those who devise wickedness and plan evil on their beds! At dawn, they carry it out because they have the power to do it. 2 They covet fields and seize them; they take houses and rob them. They oppress a man and his house, a person and their inheritance.
  • Isa 3:8 : 8 For Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen, because their speech and actions are against the LORD, challenging His glorious presence.
  • Isa 5:7 : 7 For the vineyard of the Lord of Hosts is the house of Israel, and the people of Judah are the planting of His delight. He expected justice but saw bloodshed; He expected righteousness but heard cries of distress.
  • Isa 59:3-9 : 3 For your hands are stained with blood, and your fingers with guilt. Your lips have spoken falsehood, and your tongue mutters injustice. 4 No one calls for justice, and no one pleads with integrity. They rely on empty words and speak lies; they conceive trouble and give birth to iniquity. 5 They hatch the eggs of vipers and spin spider webs. Whoever eats their eggs dies, and when one is crushed, a viper hatches. 6 Their webs will not become clothing, and they cannot cover themselves with their works. Their deeds are works of iniquity, and acts of violence are in their hands. 7 Their feet run to do evil, and they are quick to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are sinful; ruin and destruction are in their paths. 8 The way of peace they do not know, and there is no justice in their ways. They have made their paths crooked; whoever walks in them does not know peace. 9 Therefore, justice is far from us, and righteousness does not reach us. We hope for light, but behold, there is darkness; for brightness, but we walk in gloom. 10 We grope along the wall like the blind; we grope as if we had no eyes. At midday, we stumble as if it were twilight; among the strong, we are like the dead. 11 We all growl like bears and moan like doves. We hope for justice, but it is nowhere, and for salvation, but it is far from us. 12 For our transgressions are multiplied before You, and our sins testify against us. Indeed, our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities. 13 We have rebelled and denied the LORD; we have turned away from following our God. We speak of oppression and revolt, conceiving lies and uttering them from the heart. 14 Justice is driven back, and righteousness stands far off, for truth has stumbled in the streets, and honesty cannot enter. 15 Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey. The LORD saw this and was displeased, for there was no justice.
  • Jer 5:5-6 : 5 So I will go to the great leaders and speak to them, for they should know the way of the Lord, the justice of their God. But they too, as one, have broken off the yoke and torn off the bonds. 6 Therefore, a lion from the forest will attack them, a wolf from the wilderness will ravage them, and a leopard is watching their cities. Anyone who goes out will be torn apart, because their transgressions are many and their backslidings are numerous.
  • Jer 5:26-29 : 26 Among My people are wicked men. They lie in wait like those who set traps; they set deadly snares to catch people. 27 Like a cage full of birds, so their houses are full of deceit. Because of this, they have become great and rich. 28 They have grown fat and sleek. They excel in evil deeds; they do not defend the rights of the fatherless so they might prosper, nor do they uphold the cause of the needy. 29 Should I not punish them for these things? declares the Lord. Should I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?
  • Jer 6:6-7 : 6 For this is what the Lord of Hosts says: Cut down trees and build a siege ramp against Jerusalem. This city must be punished; it is filled with oppression. 7 As a well keeps its water fresh, so she keeps her wickedness fresh. Violence and destruction are heard within her; continually before me, there are sickness and wounds.
  • Ezek 22:6-9 : 6 See, the princes of Israel, each one by his own might, have been in you to shed blood. 7 Within you, they have treated father and mother with contempt; they have oppressed the foreigner in your midst; they have wronged the orphan and the widow. 8 You have despised my holy things and profaned my Sabbaths. 9 The men in you who slander for the purpose of shedding blood eat at the high places; they commit lewdness in your midst. 10 In you, they have dishonored their fathers' nakedness; they have violated women during their impurity. 11 One man commits an abomination with his neighbor’s wife, another defiles his daughter-in-law with wickedness, and another violates his sister, his father’s daughter. 12 In you, they accept bribes to shed blood; they take interest and increase unlawfully. You have gained profit in extorting your neighbors, and you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign LORD. 13 See, I will strike my hands together in anger at the dishonest gain you have made and the bloodshed that has been done in your midst.
  • Ezek 22:25-29 : 25 There is a conspiracy of her prophets within her, like a roaring lion that tears its prey; they have devoured lives, seized treasure and precious things, and made many widows within her. 26 Her priests do violence to my law and profane my holy things; they do not distinguish between the holy and the common or teach the difference between the unclean and the clean. They shut their eyes to my Sabbaths, and so I am profaned among them. 27 Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed blood and destroy lives to make unjust gain. 28 Her prophets plaster false visions for them, prophesying lies and saying, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says,’ when the LORD has not spoken. 29 The people of the land practice extortion and commit robbery; they oppress the poor and needy and mistreat the foreigner, denying them justice.
  • Hos 4:1-2 : 1 Hear the word of the LORD, O people of Israel! For the LORD has a charge against the inhabitants of the land: there is no truth, no steadfast love, and no knowledge of God in the land. 2 There is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.
  • Hos 7:1 : 1 Whenever I would heal Israel, the guilt of Ephraim is exposed, along with the wickedness of Samaria. They practice falsehood; thieves break in, and bandits raid outside.
  • Mic 3:1-3 : 1 Then I said: "Hear now, leaders of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel: Is it not your responsibility to know justice? 2 You who hate good and love evil; you tear the skin from my people and the flesh from their bones. 3 You eat the flesh of my people, strip off their skin, break their bones, and chop them up like meat for the pot, like flesh in a cauldron.
  • Mic 3:9-9 : 9 Hear this, leaders of the house of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel, you who despise justice and twist all that is right: 10 You build Zion with bloodshed and Jerusalem with iniquity. 11 Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets practice divination for silver. Yet they lean on the LORD, saying, 'Is not the LORD among us? No disaster will come upon us.'
  • Mic 7:2-6 : 2 The godly have perished from the land, and there is no upright person among humanity. All of them lie in wait for blood; they hunt each other with nets. 3 Their hands are skilled at doing evil: the ruler demands gifts, the judge accepts bribes, and the powerful speak out their selfish desires. Together they weave a web of corrupt schemes. 4 The best of them is like a brier; the most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge. The day your watchmen foretold has come, the day of your visitation. Now confusion is upon them. 5 Do not trust a neighbor; put no confidence in a close friend. Guard the words of your mouth from her who lies in your embrace. 6 For a son treats his father with contempt, a daughter rises against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man’s enemies are the members of his own household.
  • Zeph 3:3 : 3 Her officials are roaring lions in her midst; her judges are wolves of the evening, leaving nothing for the morning.
  • Rom 3:13 : 13 "Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit." "The venom of vipers is under their lips."
  • Amos 5:11-12 : 11 Therefore, because you trample on the poor and exact a grain tax from them, though you have built houses of cut stone, you will not live in them; though you have planted delightful vineyards, you will not drink their wine. 12 For I know your many transgressions and your mighty sins: oppressing the righteous, taking bribes, and turning aside the needy at the gate.
  • Amos 6:1-3 : 1 Woe to those who are complacent in Zion and trust in Mount Samaria, notable men among the foremost of nations, to whom the house of Israel comes. 2 Go to Calneh and look, then go from there to great Hamath, and go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are they better than these kingdoms? Is their territory greater than yours? 3 You push away the day of disaster and bring near a reign of violence.
