Inside the ark were a golden jar containing the manna, Aaron's staff that had budded, and the tablets of the covenant. 5 Above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. But we cannot now speak about these things in detail. 6 When these things were arranged this way, the priests would regularly enter the first room of the tabernacle to perform their ministry. 7 But only the high priest entered the second room, and only once a year, never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance. 8 By this, the Holy Spirit was showing that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still standing. 9 This is a symbol for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered cannot perfect the worshiper in conscience. 10 They are only regulations concerning food and drink and various ceremonial washings, external ordinances imposed until the time of reformation. 11 But Christ came as the high priest of the good things that are to come. He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. 12 He did not enter by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood. He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
