Saul said to him, Whose son are you, young man? David answered, I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.

7And when he looked behind him, he saw me and called to me. And I answered, Here I am.
8And he said to me, Who are you? And I answered him, I am an Amalekite.
14David was the youngest; the three eldest followed Saul.
15But David went back and forth from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.
21And Saul answered and said, Am I not a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? why then do you speak so to me?
16And it came to pass, when David had finished speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said, Is this your voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice and wept.
12And Saul said, Hear now, you son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord.
13And Saul said to him, Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread, and a sword, and have enquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?
14Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who is so faithful among all your servants as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and goes at your bidding, and is honorable in your house?
28And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem:
9And David said to Saul, Why do you listen to men's words, saying, Behold, David seeks your harm?
9Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who was set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

25The men of Israel said, Have you seen this man that has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel. The king will enrich the man who kills him with great riches, will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.
26David spoke to the men standing by him, asking, What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?
8He stood and cried to the armies of Israel and said to them, Why have you come out to set your battle in array? Am I not a Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves and let him come down to me.
28Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men and Eliab's anger burned against David. He said, Why have you come down here? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the wickedness of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.
37David said moreover, The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine. Saul said to David, Go, and the LORD be with you.
7Then Saul said to his servants that stood about him, Hear now, you Benjamites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, and make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds;
10And Nabal answered David's servants and said, Who is David? And who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants these days who break away from their masters.
11And Samuel said to Jesse, Are these all your children? And he said, There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he keeps the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and bring him: for we will not sit down till he comes here.
32And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, Why should he be slain? What has he done?
3And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do: and you shall anoint for me him whom I name to you.
25Then Saul said to David, "Blessed are you, my son David. You shall do great things, and also shall still prevail." So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
