And Amnon said to him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister. 5 And Jonadab said to him, Lie down on your bed, and pretend to be sick: and when your father comes to see you, say to him, Please let my sister Tamar come, and give me some food, and dress it in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it from her hand. 6 So Amnon lay down, and pretended to be sick; and when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, Please let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand. 7 Then David sent to Tamar's house, saying, Go now to your brother Amnon's house, and prepare him some food. 8 So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house, and he was lying down. And she took flour, kneaded it, made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes. 9 And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Send out all men from me. And every man went out from him. 10 And Amnon said to Tamar, Bring the food into the chamber, that I may eat from your hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother. 11 And when she had brought them to him to eat, he took hold of her, and said to her, Come lie with me, my sister. 12 And she answered him, No, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing should be done in Israel: do not commit this disgrace. 13 And as for me, where could I cause my shame to go? And as for you, you would be like one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, please speak to the king, for he will not withhold me from you. 14 However, he would not listen to her voice; but being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her. 15 Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, Arise, be gone. 16 And she said to him, There is no reason: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that you did to me. But he would not listen to her. 17 Then he called his servant who attended him, and said, Put this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her. 18 And she had a garment of many colors upon her, for such robes were the king's daughters who were virgins clothed. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her. 19 And Tamar put ashes on her head, and tore her garment of many colors that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying. 20 And Absalom her brother said to her, Has Amnon your brother been with you? But hold your peace now, my sister: he is your brother; do not consider this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house. 21 But when King David heard of all these things, he was very angry. 22 And Absalom spoke to his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar. 23 And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal Hazor, near Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons. 24 And Absalom came to the king and said, Behold now, your servant has sheepshearers; please let the king and his servants go with your servant. 25 And the king said to Absalom, No, my son, let us not all go now, lest we be a burden to you. And he urged him; however, he would not go, but blessed him. 26 Then Absalom said, If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, Why should he go with you? 27 But Absalom urged him, so he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him. 28 Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Watch now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Strike Amnon; then kill him, do not fear: have not I commanded you? Be courageous and be valiant. 29 And the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man got on his mule and fled. 30 And it came to pass, while they were on the way, that news came to David, saying, Absalom has slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left. 31 Then the king arose, tore his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes torn. 32 And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men, the king's sons; for only Amnon is dead: for by the command of Absalom this has been determined from the day he forced his sister Tamar. 33 Therefore let not my lord the king take the matter to his heart, thinking that all the king's sons are dead: for only Amnon is dead. 34 But Absalom fled. And the young man who kept the watch lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, many people were coming by way of the hillside behind him. 35 And Jonadab said to the king, Behold, the king's sons are coming: as your servant said, so it is. 36 And it came to pass, as soon as he had finished speaking, that behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept bitterly. 37 But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day. 38 So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there for three years. 39 And King David longed to go forth to Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, since he was dead.

And Ziba said, I humbly beseech you that I may find grace in your sight, my lord, O king. 5 And when King David came to Bahurim, behold, there came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came. 6 And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of King David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left. 7 And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, you bloody man, and you man of Belial: 8 The LORD has returned upon you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned; and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son: and, behold, you are caught in your own mischief, because you are a bloody man. 9 Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah to the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray you, and take off his head. 10 And the king said, What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? So let him curse, because the LORD has said to him, Curse David. Who then shall say, Why have you done so? 11 And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth from my own body, seeks my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? Let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD has bidden him. 12 It may be that the LORD will look on my affliction, and that the LORD will repay me good for his cursing this day. 13 And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hillside opposite him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust. 14 And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there. 15 And Absalom, and all the people the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him. 16 And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, came to Absalom, that Hushai said to Absalom, God save the king, God save the king. 17 And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this your kindness to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend? 18 And Hushai said to Absalom, No; but whom the LORD, and this people, and all the men of Israel chose, his will I be, and with him will I remain. 19 And again, whom should I serve? Should I not serve in the presence of his son? As I have served in your father's presence, so will I be in your presence. 20 Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give counsel among you what we shall do. 21 And Ahithophel said to Absalom, Go in to your father's concubines, whom he has left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that you are abhorred by your father: then shall the hands of all who are with you be strong. 22 So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in to his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel. 23 And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counseled in those days, was as if a man had inquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.
