Therefore I will make preparations for its construction.” So David made extensive preparations before he died.
6He summoned his son Solomon and charged him to build a temple for the LORD God of Israel.
7David said to Solomon:“My son, I really wanted to build a temple to honor the LORD my God.
8But this was the LORD’S message to me:‘You have spilled a great deal of blood and fought many battles. You must not build a temple to honor me, for you have spilled a great deal of blood on the ground before me.
9Look, you will have a son, who will be a peaceful man. I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. Indeed, Solomon will be his name; I will give Israel peace and quiet during his reign.
7Now my father David had a strong desire to build a temple to honor the LORD God of Israel.
8The LORD told my father David,‘It is right for you to have a strong desire to build a temple to honor me.
9But you will not build the temple; your very own son will build the temple for my honor.’
10The LORD has kept the promise he made. I have taken my father David’s place and have occupied the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised. I have built this temple for the honor of the LORD God of Israel
13O LORD, truly I have built a lofty temple for you, a place where you can live permanently.”
38You must obey all I command you to do, follow my instructions, do what I approve, and keep my rules and commandments, like my servant David did. Then I will be with you and establish for you a lasting dynasty, as I did for David; I will give you Israel.
5Then I will allow your dynasty to rule over Israel permanently, just as I promised your father David,‘You will not fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’
2O LORD, I have built a lofty temple for you, a place where you can live permanently.”
16Your house and your kingdom will stand before me permanently; your dynasty will be permanent.’”
18Then I will establish your dynasty, just as I promised your father David,‘You will not fail to have a successor ruling over Israel.’
45But King Solomon will be empowered and David’s dynasty will endure permanently before the LORD.
11The LORD made a reliable promise to David; he will not go back on his word. He said,“I will place one of your descendants on your throne.
12If your sons keep my covenant and the rules I teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever.”
35Then follow him up as he comes and sits on my throne. He will be king in my place; I have decreed that he will be ruler over Israel and Judah.”
12“As for this temple you are building, if you follow my rules, observe my regulations, and obey all my commandments, I will fulfill through you the promise I made to your father David.
10Realize now that the LORD has chosen you to build a temple as his sanctuary. Be strong and do it!”
23I will fasten him like a peg into a solid place; he will bring honor and respect to his father’s family.
