But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines. 26 And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son-in-law: and before the days had expired, 27 Therefore David arose and went, he and his men, and killed two hundred men of the Philistines; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full count to the king, that he might be the king's son-in-law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter as a wife. 28 And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal, Saul's daughter, loved him. 29 And Saul was yet more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy continually. 30 Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, when they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was highly esteemed.

And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom. 13 And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are with Absalom. 14 And David said to all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and strike the city with the edge of the sword. 15 And the king's servants said to the king, Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever my lord the king shall appoint. 16 And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, who were concubines, to keep the house. 17 And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and stayed in a place that was far off. 18 And all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men who came after him from Gath, passed on before the king. 19 Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, Why are you also going with us? Return to your place, and stay with the king: for you are a stranger and also an exile. 20 Whereas you came just yesterday, should I this day make you wander with us? seeing I go where I may, return, and take back your brethren: mercy and truth be with you.
