Elijah passed by him and threw his cloak over him. 20 Elisha left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, 'Let me kiss my father and mother goodbye, and then I will follow you.' Elijah said to him, 'Go back, for what have I done to you?' 21 Elisha returned, took the pair of oxen, and slaughtered them. Go to him, make him rise from among his companions, and lead him into an inner room. 3 Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head, saying, 'This is what the LORD says: I anoint you as king over Israel.' Then open the door and flee; do not delay! 4 So the young servant of the prophet went to Ramoth-Gilead. 5 When he arrived, he found the commanders of the army sitting together. He said, 'Commander, I have a message for you.' Jehu asked, 'For which one of us?' He replied, 'For you, commander.' 6 Jehu got up and went into the house. The young prophet poured the oil on his head and said, 'This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I anoint you king over the LORD's people, Israel.' 7 You shall strike down the house of your master Ahab, so that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets and the blood of all the LORD's servants shed by Jezebel. 8 The entire house of Ahab shall perish, and I will cut off every male from Ahab's line, both slave and free, in Israel. 9 I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah. 10 And dogs will devour Jezebel in the plot of land at Jezreel, and no one will bury her.' Then he opened the door and fled. 11 When Jehu went out to the servants of his master, they asked, 'Is everything alright? Why did this madman come to you?' He replied, 'You know the sort of man and his babble.' 12 They said, 'That's not true! Tell us!'
