  • 1 John 3:11-19 : 11 For this is the message you have heard from the beginning: that we should love one another. 12 Not like Cain, who was from the evil one and killed his brother. And why did he kill him? Because his deeds were evil and his brother’s were righteous. 13 Do not be surprised, brothers and sisters, if the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our brothers and sisters. The one who does not love remains in death. 15 Everyone who hates their brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in them. 16 This is how we have come to know love: He laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 But whoever has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need, yet closes his heart against them, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth. 19 By this we will know that we belong to the truth and will reassure our hearts in His presence.
  • 1 John 4:7-9 : 7 Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 By this, the love of God was revealed among us: that God sent His only Son into the world so that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God. If we love one another, God remains in us, and His love is perfected in us. 13 By this, we know that we remain in Him and He in us: He has given us of His Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as the Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in them, and they in God. 16 And we have come to know and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in them.

  • 1 Cor 13:1-9 : 1 If I speak in the tongues of people and of angels, but do not have love, I am like a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy, understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give everything I have to the poor and surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became an adult, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
