- Lev 27:2-8 : 2 Speak to the Israelites and say to them: When someone makes a special vow to dedicate persons to the LORD according to your valuation, 3 the valuation for a male from twenty years old to sixty years old shall be fifty shekels of silver according to the sanctuary shekel. 4 But if it is a female, the valuation shall be thirty shekels. 5 If the person is five to twenty years old, the valuation for a male shall be twenty shekels, and for a female, ten shekels. 6 If the person is one month old to five years old, the valuation for a male shall be five shekels of silver, and for a female, three shekels of silver. 7 If the person is sixty years old or older, the valuation shall be fifteen shekels for a male and ten shekels for a female. 8 If someone is too poor to pay the valuation, they shall present the individual before the priest, and the priest shall assess the value according to what the one making the vow can afford.
- Josh 9:23-27 : 23 'Now therefore, you are under a curse and will always serve as woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God.' 24 They answered Joshua, 'Your servants were clearly told how the LORD your God had commanded His servant Moses to give you this entire land and destroy all its inhabitants before you. So we feared greatly for our lives because of you, and that is why we did this.' 25 Now we are in your hands. Do to us whatever seems good and right to you. 26 So Joshua saved them from the Israelites, and they did not kill them. 27 On that day, Joshua made them woodcutters and water carriers for the assembly and for the altar of the LORD at the place He would choose. And they continue to do so to this day.
