Do not touch anything that belongs to them, or you will be swept away because of all their sins." 27 So they moved away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. Dathan and Abiram had come out and were standing with their wives, children, and little ones at the entrances to their tents. 28 Then Moses said, "This is how you will know that the Lord has sent me to do all these things and that it was not my own idea: 29 If these men die a natural death and experience only what usually happens to men, then the Lord has not sent me. 30 But if the Lord brings about something unprecedented and the ground opens its mouth to swallow them and everything that belongs to them, and they go down alive into the grave, then you will know that these men have treated the Lord with contempt. 31 As soon as he finished speaking all these words, the ground beneath them split apart. 32 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and their households, along with all of Korah's men and all their possessions. 33 They went down alive into the grave, with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished from the community. 34 All the Israelites around them ran away at their cries, saying, 'The earth might swallow us too!' 35 Then fire came out from the Lord and consumed the 250 men who were offering incense. 1 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 Speak to Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, and have him take the censers out of the burning remains and scatter the fire some distance away, for the censers are holy. 3 Take the censers of these men who sinned against their own lives and have them made into hammered plates to overlay the altar, for they presented them before the LORD, and they became holy. Let them serve as a sign to the Israelites. 4 So Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers that had been brought by those who were burned, and they were hammered into a covering for the altar. 5 It is to be a reminder to the Israelites, so that no unauthorized person—anyone who is not from Aaron’s descendants—may come near to burn incense before the LORD and become like Korah and his assembly, as the LORD had spoken to him through Moses. 6 The entire Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron the next day, saying, 'You have killed the LORD’s people!' 7 When the assembly gathered against Moses and Aaron, they turned toward the tent of meeting, and there the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared. 8 Moses and Aaron went to the front of the tent of meeting. 9 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 10 'Move away from this assembly so I can put an end to them at once.' And they fell facedown. 11 Moses said to Aaron, 'Take your censer and put incense on it, along with fire from the altar, and hurry to the assembly to make atonement for them. Wrath has gone out from the LORD; the plague has begun.' 12 So Aaron did as Moses commanded and ran into the midst of the assembly, and the plague had already begun among the people. He put the incense in and made atonement for the people. 13 He stood between the living and the dead, and the plague was stopped.
