The old prophet answered, 'I too am a prophet, like you. An angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, "Bring him back with you to your house so that he may eat bread and drink water."' But he was lying to him.

7The king said to the man of God, 'Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward.'
8But the man of God replied to the king, 'Even if you were to give me half your house, I would not go with you, nor would I eat bread or drink water in this place.'
9'For this is the command the LORD gave me by His word: You must not eat bread or drink water or return by the way you came.'
10So he went another way and did not return by the way he had come to Bethel.
11Now there was an old prophet living in Bethel, and his sons came and told him all the deeds the man of God had done that day in Bethel. They also told their father the words he had spoken to the king.
12Their father asked them, 'Which way did he go?' His sons showed him the road the man of God from Judah had taken.

20Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD, and said, 'I will entice him.' 'By what means?' the LORD asked.
21He said, 'I will go and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets.' The LORD said, 'You will succeed in enticing him. Go and do it.'
22So now the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of these prophets of yours. The LORD has decreed disaster for you.
13Has it not been reported to my lord what I did when Jezebel was killing the prophets of the LORD? I hid a hundred of the LORD's prophets in two caves, fifty in each, and supplied them with bread and water.
14And now you say, 'Go and tell your master, Elijah is here,' and he will kill me!

18When they returned to Elisha, who was staying in Jericho, he said to them, 'Didn't I tell you not to go?'
12They said, 'That's not true! Tell us!' So he said, 'This is what he said to me: “This is what the LORD says: I anoint you king over Israel.”'
8Elijah replied, "It is I. Go and tell your master, 'Elijah is here.'"
11As she was going to fetch it, he called to her and said, "Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand as well."
23But he refused and said, "I will not eat." However, his servants together with the woman urged him, and he listened to them. He got up from the ground and sat on the bed.
