  • Deut 28:3-9 : 3 You will be blessed in the city, and you will be blessed in the field. 4 Blessed will be the fruit of your womb, the produce of your land, and the offspring of your livestock—including the young of your cattle and the increase of your flocks. 5 Blessed will be your basket and your kneading bowl. 6 You will be blessed when you come in, and you will be blessed when you go out. 7 The LORD will cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you. They will come out against you in one direction but flee from you in seven directions. 8 The LORD will command the blessing on your storehouses and on all you set your hand to do. He will bless you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. 9 The LORD will establish you as His holy people, as He swore to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways. 10 Then all the peoples of the earth will see that the name of the LORD is called upon you, and they will stand in awe of you. 11 The LORD will make you prosper abundantly in the fruit of your womb, in the offspring of your livestock, and in the produce of your land on the land that the LORD swore to your fathers to give you. 12 The LORD will open the heavens, His rich treasury, to give rain to your land in its season and bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow. 13 The LORD will make you the head and not the tail, and you will only go upwards and not downwards, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God that I am commanding you today, to observe and to do them. 14 You must not turn aside from any of the words I am commanding you today, neither to the right nor to the left, to follow other gods and serve them.

  • Lam 1:1 : 1 How lonely sits the city, once so full of people! She has become like a widow, great among the nations, a princess among the provinces, now a slave.
  • Lam 2:11-22 : 11 My eyes are worn out from weeping, my inner being is in turmoil; my heart is poured out on the ground because of the destruction of my people, as children and infants faint in the streets of the city. 12 They cry out to their mothers, 'Where is the bread and the wine?' as they faint like the wounded in the streets of the city, and as they breathe their last in their mothers’ arms. 13 What can I say on your behalf? To what can I compare you, O daughter of Jerusalem? What can I liken you to, so that I may comfort you, O virgin daughter of Zion? Your wound is as vast as the sea—who can heal you? 14 The visions of your prophets were false and empty; they did not expose your iniquity to restore your fortunes. Instead, they saw false and misleading oracles for you. 15 All who pass along the way clap their hands at you; they hiss and wag their heads at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, 'Is this the city that was called the perfection of beauty, the joy of all the earth?' 16 All your enemies open their mouths against you; they hiss and grind their teeth, saying, 'We have swallowed her up. Surely this is the day we hoped for; we have found it, we have seen it.' 17 The LORD has done what he planned; he has fulfilled his word that he decreed long ago. He has overthrown without pity; he has let the enemy gloat over you and exalt the horn of your adversaries. 18 Their heart cried out to the Lord. O wall of the daughter of Zion, let your tears flow like a stream day and night; give yourself no rest, and let your eyes have no respite. 19 Arise, cry out in the night, at the start of the night watches; pour out your heart like water before the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your little children who faint from hunger at every street corner. 20 Look, LORD, and consider: Whom have you ever treated like this? Should women eat their own children, the little ones they have cherished? Should priest and prophet be killed in the sanctuary of the Lord? 21 Young and old lie together in the dust of the streets; my young women and young men have fallen by the sword. You have slain them in the day of your anger; you have slaughtered them without pity. 22 You summoned, as if to a feast day, terrors on every side. On the day of the LORD’s anger, no one escaped or survived. Those I cared for and raised, my enemy has destroyed.
  • Lam 4:1-9 : 1 How the gold has grown dim, the fine gold has changed! The holy stones lie scattered at the head of every street. 2 The precious children of Zion, worth their weight in fine gold, how they are regarded as earthen vessels, the work of a potter's hands! 3 Even jackals offer their breasts to nurse their young; but the daughter of my people has become cruel, like ostriches in the wilderness. 4 The tongue of the nursing infant clings to the roof of its mouth because of thirst. The children beg for bread, but no one gives it to them. 5 Those who once feasted on delicacies now lie desolate in the streets; those who were brought up in fine crimson embrace ash heaps. 6 The iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the sin of Sodom, which was overthrown in a moment, with no hand turned to help her. 7 Her nobles were purer than snow, whiter than milk; their bodies were more ruddy than coral, their appearance like sapphires. 8 Now their appearance is darker than soot; they are not recognized in the streets. Their skin clings to their bones; it has become as dry as wood. 9 Those slain by the sword are better off than those dying of hunger, wasting away, pierced by lack of the fruits of the field. 10 The compassionate women have boiled their own children; they became their food during the destruction of the daughter of my people. 11 The LORD has exhausted His wrath and poured out His fierce anger; He kindled a fire in Zion, consuming its foundations. 12 Neither the kings of the earth nor the inhabitants of the world believed that the adversary and the enemy could enter the gates of Jerusalem. 13 It happened because of the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests, who shed the blood of the righteous in her midst.

  • Joel 1:8-9 : 8 Mourn like a young woman dressed in sackcloth, grieving for the husband of her youth. 9 Grain offerings and drink offerings are cut off from the house of the Lord. The priests, the ministers of the Lord, mourn. 10 The fields are devastated, and the ground mourns, because the grain is destroyed, the new wine is dried up, and the olive oil fails. 11 Be ashamed, you farmers; wail, you vinekeepers, for the wheat and the barley, because the harvest of the field has perished. 12 The vine is dried up, and the fig tree withers; the pomegranate, the palm, and the apple tree—all the trees of the field are dried up. Indeed, joy has withered away from the people. 13 Put on sackcloth and mourn, you priests; wail, you ministers of the altar. Come, spend the night in sackcloth, you who minister to my God, for grain offerings and drink offerings are withheld from the house of your God. 14 Declare a holy fast; proclaim a solemn assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord. 15 Alas for the day! For the day of the Lord is near, and it will come as destruction from the Almighty. 16 Isn’t the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God? 17 The seeds shrivel beneath their clods, the storehouses are desolate, the granaries are broken down, for the grain has dried up. 18 How the cattle groan! The herds of livestock wander in confusion because they have no pasture; even the flocks of sheep are suffering.

  • Hag 2:16-17 : 16 from that time, when one came to a grain heap of twenty measures, only ten were there; when one came to the wine vat to draw fifty measures, only twenty were there. 17 I struck you—all the work of your hands— with blight, mildew, and hail, but you did not turn to me—this is the declaration of the LORD.

Your vine in the field will not fail to bear fruit, says the Lord of Hosts. 12 All nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of Hosts.
