The men of Ephraim said to Gideon, 'What is this thing you have done to us by not calling us when you went to fight against Midian?' And they argued with him forcefully.

8The elders of Gilead replied, 'That is why we have now turned to you. Come with us to fight the Ammonites, and you will be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.'
12Then some of the leaders of Ephraim—Azariah son of Jehohanan, Berechiah son of Meshillemoth, Hezekiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai—stood up against those returning from the battle.
13They said to them, "You must not bring the captives here, for we are already guilty before the LORD. Adding these captives will only increase our sins and guilt before God, for our guilt is already great, and His fierce anger is against Israel."
43The men of Judah responded to the men of Israel, "The king is closely related to us. Why are you angry about this matter? Have we eaten any of the king’s provisions, or have we taken anything for ourselves?"
5He said to the men of Succoth, 'Please give loaves of bread to the people who are following me, for they are exhausted, and I am pursuing Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.'
6But the leaders of Succoth replied, 'Are Zebah and Zalmunna already in your hands, that we should give bread to your army?'
7So Gideon said, 'Very well, when the Lord has given Zebah and Zalmunna into my hands, I will tear your flesh with thorns of the wilderness and briars.'
8From there he went up to Penuel and made the same request of them, but they answered him just as the men of Succoth had.
13Gideon said to him, 'Please, my lord, if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? And where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about, saying, ‘Did the Lord not bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and handed us over to Midian.'
14The Lord turned to him and said, 'Go in the strength you have and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Am I not sending you?'
9But they forgot the LORD their God, so He sold them into the hands of Sisera, the commander of Hazor’s army, and into the hands of the Philistines and the king of Moab, who fought against them.
10Then they cried out to the LORD, saying, 'We have sinned, for we have abandoned the LORD and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth. But now, deliver us from the hands of our enemies, and we will serve You.'
12The tribes of Israel sent men throughout the tribe of Benjamin, saying, "What is this awful crime that has been committed among you?"
7When the Israelites cried out to the Lord because of Midian,
8When they returned to their brothers in Zorah and Eshtaol, their brothers asked them, 'What do you report?'
33Now all the Midianites, Amalekites, and the people of the east joined forces, crossed the Jordan, and camped in the Valley of Jezreel.
14But by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet, he was preserved.
21Then the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh replied to the heads of the clans of Israel:
22The Israelites said to Gideon, 'Rule over us—you, your son, and your grandson—because you have saved us from the hand of Midian.'
28When Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard him speaking to the men, he became angry with David and said, 'Why have you come down here? And who did you leave those few sheep with in the wilderness? I know your pride and the wickedness of your heart; you came down only to watch the battle.'
15When they came to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead, they spoke to them, saying:
9The sons of Ephraim, armed with bows, turned back on the day of battle.
27When he arrived there, he blew a trumpet in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went down with him from the hills, with him leading them.
10So Amaziah dismissed the troops who had come to him from Ephraim and sent them home. They were furious with Judah and left in a rage.
38Then Zebul said to him, "Where now is your boasting, you who said, 'Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him?' Aren’t these the people you despised? Go out now and fight them!"
29They asked one another, 'Who did this?' When they investigated and inquired, they were told, 'Gideon son of Joash did it.'
35He also sent messengers throughout all Manasseh, calling them to arms, and to Asher, Zebulun, and Naphtali. They too came up to meet him.
6Israel said, “Why did you bring this trouble on me by telling the man that you had another brother?”
3So Moses said to the people, 'Arm some of your men for battle, to go against Midian and execute the LORD's vengeance on Midian.'
