1Abimelech, son of Jerubbaal, went to Shechem to visit his mother’s relatives. He spoke to them and to the entire family of his mother’s household, saying:

4They gave him seventy pieces of silver from the temple of Baal-Berith, and with it Abimelech hired worthless and reckless men who followed him.
5He went to his father’s house at Ophrah and killed his seventy brothers, the sons of Jerubbaal, on one stone. But Jotham, the youngest son of Jerubbaal, escaped by hiding himself.
56Thus God repaid the wickedness that Abimelech had done to his father by killing his seventy brothers.
2Jephthah replied to them, "I and my people were in a serious struggle with the Ammonites. I called for your help, but you did not save me from their hands.
3"When I saw that you would not help, I risked my own life and crossed over to fight against the Ammonites, and the Lord gave them into my hand. Why have you come to fight against me today?"

21Zebah and Zalmunna said, 'Get up yourself and strike us down, for a man is judged by his strength.' So Gideon got up, killed Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescent ornaments from the necks of their camels.
22The Israelites said to Gideon, 'Rule over us—you, your son, and your grandson—because you have saved us from the hand of Midian.'
13Gideon said to him, 'Please, my lord, if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? And where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about, saying, ‘Did the Lord not bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and handed us over to Midian.'
14The Lord turned to him and said, 'Go in the strength you have and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Am I not sending you?'
15But Gideon said to him, 'Please, Lord, how can I save Israel? Look, my family is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father's house.'
16The Lord said to him, 'I will be with you, and you will strike down Midian as if it were one man.'
39So Gaal went out before the leaders of Shechem and fought against Abimelech.
40But Abimelech pursued him, and Gaal fled before him. Many fell wounded, all the way to the entrance of the gate.
9That night the LORD said to him, "Get up and go down against the camp, for I have given it into your hands.
12Now then, please swear to me by the LORD that you will show kindness to my family because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a sure sign
13that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them, and that you will save us from death."
24This happened so that the violence done to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might be avenged, and their blood laid on their brother Abimelech, who killed them, and on the leaders of Shechem, who had supported him in killing his brothers.
11Then the LORD sent Jerubbaal, Bedan, Jephthah, and Samuel, and He delivered you from the hand of your enemies on every side, so that you lived in safety.
1The men of Ephraim said to Gideon, 'What is this thing you have done to us by not calling us when you went to fight against Midian?' And they argued with him forcefully.
2But Gideon replied to them, 'What have I accomplished compared to you? Aren’t the gleanings of Ephraim’s harvest better than the full harvest of Abiezer?'
3God gave the leaders of Midian—Oreb and Zeeb—into your hands. What was I able to do compared to you?' At this, their anger toward him subsided when he said this.

28Then Gaal, the son of Ebed, said, "Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? Isn’t he the son of Jerubbaal, and isn’t Zebul his officer? Serve the descendants of Hamor, the father of Shechem! Why should we serve him?
29If only this people were under my authority, I would remove Abimelech!" Then he said to Abimelech, "Gather your army and come out!"
27So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the Lord had told him. But because he was afraid of his family and the men of the city, he did it at night rather than in the daytime.
9So God has taken away your father’s livestock and given it to me.
26Gaal, the son of Ebed, and his brothers came to Shechem, and the leaders of Shechem put their trust in him.
32Then Jephthah crossed over to fight the Ammonites, and the Lord gave them into his hands.
