  • Num 6:2-9 : 2 Speak to the Israelites and say to them: If a man or a woman makes a special vow, the vow of a Nazirite, to separate themselves for the LORD, 3 they must abstain from wine and any strong drink. They must not drink vinegar made from wine or vinegar made from strong drink. They must not drink any liquid made from grapes, nor eat fresh grapes or raisins. 4 For the entire duration of their vow of separation, they must not eat anything from the grapevine—not even the seeds or the skins. 5 Throughout the length of their vow, no razor may touch their head. Until the time of their dedication to the LORD is complete, they are to be holy and allow the hair of their head to grow long. 6 During the entire time of their vow to the LORD, they must not go near a dead body. 7 Even if their father, mother, brother, or sister dies, they must not make themselves ceremonially unclean for them, because the consecration to God is upon their head. 8 For the entire period of their separation, they are holy to the LORD. 9 If someone dies suddenly beside them, making their head of dedication unclean, they must shave their head on the day of their purification—the seventh day. 10 On the eighth day, they are to bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 11 The priest shall offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering to make atonement for them, because they sinned due to the dead body. On that day, they must rededicate their head. 12 They must recommit themselves to the LORD for the duration of their vow of separation and bring a one-year-old male lamb as a guilt offering. The previous period of dedication will not count, because their separation was defiled. 13 This is the law for the Nazirite: When their period of dedication is complete, they are to be brought to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 14 They are to present their offering to the LORD: a year-old male lamb without defect for a burnt offering, a year-old female lamb without defect for a sin offering, and a ram without defect for a fellowship offering. 15 Along with a basket of unleavened bread made of fine flour—loaves mixed with oil and wafers spread with oil—together with their grain offerings and drink offerings. 16 The priest is to present all of these before the LORD and offer the sin offering and the burnt offering. 17 He shall offer the ram as a fellowship offering to the LORD, along with the basket of unleavened bread. The priest is also to present the grain offering and the drink offering. 18 The Nazirite must then shave the hair of their dedication at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, take the hair and put it in the fire that is under the sacrifice of the fellowship offering. 19 After the Nazirite has shaved their head, the priest is to take the boiled shoulder from the ram, one unleavened loaf from the basket, and one unleavened wafer, and place them in the hands of the Nazirite. 20 The priest shall then wave these as a wave offering before the LORD; they are holy and belong to the priest, together with the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the heave offering. After that, the Nazirite may drink wine. 21 This is the law of the Nazirite who takes a vow, their offering to the LORD for their separation, in addition to whatever else they can afford. They must fulfill the vow they have made, according to the law of their separation.
