20But Sihon did not trust Israel to pass through his land. Instead, he gathered all his people, camped at Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
21The Lord, the God of Israel, gave Sihon and all his people into Israel’s hand, and they defeated them. So Israel took possession of all the land of the Amorites, who lived in that territory.
23But Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his territory. He gathered all his people and went out to confront Israel in the wilderness; he came to Jahaz and fought with Israel.
8So we passed by our relatives, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir, and we turned from the road through the Arabah, bypassing Elath and Ezion-geber. Then we moved on and journeyed along the wilderness road of Moab.
12But his master said to him, “We will not turn aside into a city of foreigners, who are not Israelites. We will go on to Gibeah.”
32We will cross over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, but the possession of our inheritance will be on this side of the Jordan."
