Nehemiah 5:9
Also I said, What you are doing is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the nations, our enemies?

11 Restore to them, I pray you, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their olive groves, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, the grain, the new wine, and the olive oil, that you are charging them.
12 Then they said, We will restore them, and will require nothing from them; we will do as you say. Then I called the priests and required an oath from them that they would do according to this promise.
17 Then I said to them, You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come, let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach.
22 For I was ashamed to request from the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to protect us against the enemy on the way, because we had spoken to the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek him; but his power and his wrath are against all who forsake him.
15 But the former governors who were before me laid burdens on the people and took bread and wine from them, besides forty shekels of silver; yes, even their servants ruled over the people. But I did not do so, because of the fear of God.
16 Indeed, I also devoted myself to the work on this wall and did not buy any land. All my servants were gathered there for the work.
13 And after all that has come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great trespass, seeing that You our God have punished us less than our iniquities deserve and have given us such deliverance as this;
14 Should we again break Your commandments and join in affinity with the peoples of these abominations? Would You not be angry with us until You had consumed us, so that there should be no remnant or escaping?
9 Then we asked those elders and said to them, Who commanded you to build this house and to finish these walls?
27 Shall we then listen to you to do all this great evil, transgressing against our God by marrying pagan women?
9 For we were bondservants, yet our God has not forsaken us in our bondage, but has extended mercy to us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, to repair its desolations, and to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem.
10 And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? For we have forsaken Your commandments,
27 Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should misbehave themselves, and lest they should say, Our hand is high, and the LORD has not done all this.
19 But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian heard it, they mocked us and despised us, and said, What is this thing that you do? Will you rebel against the king?
13 Therefore he was hired, that I should be afraid, and act that way, and sin, so they might have cause for an evil report, that they might reproach me.
14 My God, remember Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, who would have made me afraid.
6 And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to You, my God, for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass has grown up to the heavens.
7 Since the days of our fathers we have been in a great trespass to this day; and because of our iniquities, we, our kings, and our priests, have been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, to spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.
4 Hear, O our God; for we are despised: turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them as prey in a land of captivity:
5 Do not cover their iniquity, and do not let their sin be blotted out from before you: for they have provoked you to anger before the builders.
10 And now you purpose to keep the children of Judah and Jerusalem as bondmen and bondwomen for yourselves, but are there not with you sins against the LORD your God?
11 And our adversaries said, They shall not know or see anything until we come in among them and kill them, and cause the work to cease.
12 And when the Jews who lived near them came, they said to us ten times, From whatever place you turn, they will be upon us.
15 So again have I thought in these days to do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear not.
13 And said to them, You shall not bring the captives here, for whereas we have offended against the LORD already, you intend to add more to our sins and to our trespass, for our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.
16 And it happened, when all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations around us saw these things, they were very disheartened in their own eyes; for they realized that this work was done by our God.
17 Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said to them, What evil thing is this that you are doing, profaning the Sabbath day?
18 Did not your fathers do this, and did not our God bring all this disaster on us and on this city? Yet you bring added wrath on Israel by profaning the Sabbath.
13 You make us a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and a derision to those that are around us.
1 Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even those of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.
32 Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and mercy, do not let all the hardship seem little before You that has come upon us, our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our forefathers, and all Your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria until this day.
22 Take heed now that you fail not to do this: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?
35 For they have not served You in their kingdom, or in the vast and fertile land that You gave them, nor did they turn from their wicked works.
6 For our fathers have trespassed, and done evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have forsaken Him, and turned away from the dwelling place of the LORD, and turned their backs.
1 Remember, O LORD, what has come upon us; consider and behold our disgrace.
9 For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands will be weakened from the work, so that it will not be done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.
14 And I looked, and rose up, and said to the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Do not be afraid of them: remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses.
9 Nevertheless we made our prayer to our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.
13 As it is written in the law of Moses, all this calamity has come upon us: yet we have not made our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities and understand Your truth.
14 Therefore the LORD has watched over the calamity, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is righteous in all His works which He does: for we have not obeyed His voice.
19 Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that my fear is not in you, says the Lord GOD of hosts.
2 Therefore the king said to me, Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This is nothing but sorrow of heart. Then I was very much afraid,
9 Therefore, I have also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as you have not kept my ways but have been partial in the law.
23 Whatever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?
