David said,“Mephibosheth?” He replied,“Yes, at your service.” 7 David said to him,“Don’t be afraid, because I will certainly extend kindness to you for the sake of Jonathan your father. I will give back to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will be a regular guest at my table.”

    2Jonathan said to him,“By no means are you going to die! My father does nothing large or small without making me aware of it. Why would my father hide this matter from me? It just won’t happen!”

    3Taking an oath, David again said,“Your father is very much aware of the fact that I have found favor with you, and he has thought,‘Don’t let Jonathan know about this, or he will be upset.’ But as surely as the LORD lives and you live, there is about one step between me and death!”

    4Jonathan replied to David,“Tell me what I can do for you.”

    19Now if a man finds his enemy, does he send him on his way in good shape? May the LORD repay you with good this day for what you have done to me.

  • 23But David said,“No! You shouldn’t do this, my brothers. Look at what the LORD has given us! He has protected us and has delivered into our hands the raiding party that came against us.

  • 7But the LORD was unwilling to destroy David’s dynasty because of the promise he had made to give David a perpetual dynasty.

  • 42O LORD God, do not reject your chosen ones! Remember the faithful promises you made to your servant David!”

  • 25Now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep the promise you made to your servant, my father David, when you said,‘You will never fail to have a successor ruling before me on the throne of Israel, provided that your descendants watch their step and serve me as you have done.’

  • 28Please forgive the sin of your servant, for the LORD will certainly establish a lasting dynasty for my lord, because my lord fights the battles of the LORD. May no evil be found in you all your days!

    18When the two of them had made a covenant before the LORD, David stayed on at Horesh, but Jonathan went to his house.

  • 23The LORD rewards each man for his integrity and loyalty. Even though today the LORD delivered you into my hand, I was not willing to extend my hand against the LORD’s chosen one.

  • 25So now, O LORD God, make this promise you have made about your servant and his family a permanent reality. Do as you promised,

  • 19But the LORD was unwilling to destroy Judah. He preserved Judah for the sake of his servant David to whom he had promised a perpetual dynasty.

  • 11O LORD, you do not withhold your compassion from me. May your loyal love and faithfulness continually protect me!
