There they are to break the heifer’s neck. 5 The priests, the sons of Levi, shall come forward, for the LORD your God has chosen them to minister to Him and to pronounce blessings in His name; and every dispute and every case of assault is to be settled by their decision. 6 All the elders of the city nearest to the slain person shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley, 7 and they shall declare, ‘Our hands did not shed this blood, nor did our eyes see it. 8 LORD, make atonement for Your people Israel, whom You have redeemed, and do not hold the guilt of innocent blood against Your people Israel.’ And the bloodshed will be atoned for. 9 So you shall purge the guilt of innocent blood from among you, because you will be doing what is right in the eyes of the LORD.
