33 'For they have forsaken Me and worshiped Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh, the god of Moab, and Milcom, the god of the Ammonites. They have not walked in My ways, done what is right in My sight, or kept My statutes and judgments as David, his father, did.'
4 Yet the LORD, the God of Israel, chose me out of all my father's house to be king over Israel forever. He chose Judah as leader, and within the house of Judah, He was pleased to choose my father's family. And among the sons of my father, He was pleased with me to make me king over all Israel.
5 Of all my sons—for the LORD has given me many sons—He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the LORD’s kingdom over Israel.
6 He said to me, ‘Solomon your son is the one who will build My house and My courts, for I have chosen him to be My son, and I will be his Father.
7 I will establish his kingdom forever if he is resolute in keeping My commandments and ordinances, as he is doing today.’
17 As for you, if you walk before Me as David your father did, and do all I have commanded, and observe My statutes and judgments,
18 Then I will establish your royal throne, as I made a covenant with David your father, saying, 'You will never fail to have a man to rule over Israel.'
16 'Since the day I brought My people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from all the tribes of Israel to build a house where My name might be, but I chose David to rule My people Israel.'
8 I tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you. But you have not been like My servant David, who kept My commandments and followed Me with all his heart, doing only what was right in My eyes.

20 In this way, his heart will not become proud above his fellow Israelites, and he will not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or to the left. He and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in the midst of Israel.
