    10The next day, an evil spirit from God came powerfully upon Saul, and he raved inside the house while David was playing the harp, as he usually did. Saul had a spear in his hand.

    27As they were going down to the outskirts of the town, Samuel said to Saul, "Tell the servant to go on ahead of us"—and the servant went on—"but you stay here for a moment, and I will give you a message from God."

    14Saul asked her, "What does he look like?" She replied, "An old man is coming up, and he is wrapped in a robe." Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground in reverence.

    15Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" Saul answered, "I am deeply distressed. The Philistines are waging war against me, and God has turned away from me. He no longer answers me, not by prophets or by dreams. Therefore, I have called upon you to tell me what I should do."

  • 6Saul heard that David and his men had been discovered. Saul was seated in Gibeah under the tamarisk tree on the hill, spear in hand, with all his servants standing around him.

  • 17When Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said to him, "Here is the man I told you about; he will govern my people."

  • 2Samuel said, "How can I go? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me." The LORD replied, "Take a young cow with you and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.'

  • 12Early in the morning, Samuel got up to meet Saul, but he was told, 'Saul went to Carmel and has set up a monument in his own honor. Then he turned and went down to Gilgal.'

  • 10Then the word of the LORD came to Samuel, saying:

  • 10Saul said to his servant, "Good idea. Let’s go." So they set out for the town where the man of God was.

  • 6When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, "Surely the LORD's anointed stands here before him."

  • 12Saul was afraid of David because the LORD was with David but had departed from Saul.
