Then Saul said to his servants, "Find me a woman who is a medium, so I can go and consult her." His servants replied, "There is a woman who is a medium at En-dor."

8So Saul disguised himself by wearing other clothes. He went, accompanied by two men, and they came to the woman at night. Saul said, "Consult a spirit for me and bring up for me the one I name to you."
9The woman said to him, "Surely you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off the mediums and spiritists from the land. Why are you setting a trap for my life to bring about my death?"

12When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out with a loud voice and said to Saul, "Why have you deceived me? You are Saul!"
13The king said to her, "Do not be afraid. What do you see?" The woman said to Saul, "I see a spirit coming up out of the earth."
14Saul asked her, "What does he look like?" She replied, "An old man is coming up, and he is wrapped in a robe." Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground in reverence.
15Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" Saul answered, "I am deeply distressed. The Philistines are waging war against me, and God has turned away from me. He no longer answers me, not by prophets or by dreams. Therefore, I have called upon you to tell me what I should do."
16Samuel said, "Why do you consult me, now that the LORD has turned away from you and has become your enemy?
20Immediately Saul fell full length on the ground, paralyzed with fear because of Samuel's words. There was no strength left in him, for he had not eaten anything all day and all night.
21When the woman came to Saul and saw that he was greatly distressed, she said to him, "Behold, your servant has obeyed you. I have taken my life in my hands and done as you requested.
22Now please listen to your servant and let me set a piece of bread before you to eat, so you may have strength when you go on your way."
14Now the Spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD began to torment him.
15Saul's servants said to him, "Behold, an evil spirit from God is tormenting you."
16Let our lord command your servants here to search for someone who can skillfully play the lyre. When the evil spirit from God comes upon you, he will play it, and you will feel better."
17So Saul said to his servants, "Find me someone who plays well, and bring him to me."
18Saul approached Samuel at the city gate and asked, "Please tell me where the seer's house is."
19Samuel answered, "I am the seer. Go up ahead of me to the high place, for you will eat with me today. In the morning, I will send you on your way and tell you all that is on your heart.
7Saul said to his servant, "If we go, what can we give the man? The bread in our bags is gone, and we have no gift to bring to the man of God. What do we have?"
8The servant answered Saul again, "Look, I have a quarter of a shekel of silver. I will give it to the man of God so that he will tell us what way to go."
9(Formerly in Israel, when people went to inquire of God, they would say, "Come, let us go to the seer," because the prophet of today used to be called a seer.)
10Saul said to his servant, "Good idea. Let’s go." So they set out for the town where the man of God was.
11As they were climbing the hill to the town, they met young women coming out to draw water, and they asked them, "Is the seer here?"
19When they say to you, 'Consult the mediums and the spiritists who whisper and mutter,' shouldn’t a people consult their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living?
27As they were going down to the outskirts of the town, Samuel said to Saul, "Tell the servant to go on ahead of us"—and the servant went on—"but you stay here for a moment, and I will give you a message from God."
36Saul said, 'Let us go down after the Philistines by night and plunder them until dawn. Let us not leave one of them alive.' They replied, 'Do whatever seems best to you.' But the priest said, 'Let us inquire of God here.'
37Saul inquired of God, 'Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?' But He did not answer him that day.
38Then Saul said, 'Come here, all you chiefs of the people. Investigate and find out what sin has been committed today.
22Finally, Saul himself went to Ramah. He came to the great cistern at Secu and asked, 'Where are Samuel and David?' Someone answered, 'They are at Naioth in Ramah.'
14Saul's uncle asked him and his servant, 'Where did you go?' Saul replied, 'To look for the donkeys, but when we saw that they were not found, we went to Samuel.'
15Then Saul's uncle said, 'Please tell me what Samuel said to you.'
11Or one who casts spells, consults a medium or spiritist, or who seeks the dead.
9So Saul said, "Bring me the burnt offering and the peace offerings." And he offered the burnt offering.
10Just as he finished offering the burnt sacrifice, Samuel came. Saul went out to meet him and to greet him.
20Saul sent messengers to capture David. But when they saw the group of prophets prophesying, with Samuel presiding over them, the Spirit of God came upon Saul’s messengers, and they also began to prophesy.
31When David's words were heard, they were reported to Saul, and he sent for him.
2Samuel said, "How can I go? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me." The LORD replied, "Take a young cow with you and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.'
3Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you are to do. You are to anoint for me the one I indicate to you.
22Then Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, "Allow David to remain in my service, for he has found favor in my sight."
15Now the LORD had revealed to Samuel the day before Saul came,
31Do not turn to mediums or spiritists. Do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.
1Samuel said to Saul, "The LORD sent me to anoint you as king over His people Israel. Now, listen to the words of the LORD.
10The next day, an evil spirit from God came powerfully upon Saul, and he raved inside the house while David was playing the harp, as he usually did. Saul had a spear in his hand.
16Then Samuel said to Saul, 'Stop! Let me tell you what the LORD said to me last night.' Saul replied, 'Speak.'
13Saul said to him, 'Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, giving him bread and a sword and inquiring of God for him, so that he has risen against me to lie in wait, as he does today?'
24When Saul’s servants reported back what David had said,
