19Now listen to me; I will give you advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people's representative before God and bring their disputes to Him.
22Let them judge the people at all times. Have them bring every difficult case to you, but have them decide simple cases themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you.
20Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, "Give us your advice. What should we do?"
37Its abundant harvest goes to the kings You have set over us because of our sins. They rule over our bodies and our livestock as they please, and we are in great distress.
9Now then, listen to them, but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will demand.'

11So our elders and all the inhabitants of our land told us, ‘Take provisions for the journey and go to meet them. Tell them: We are your servants; now make a treaty with us.’
5They said to him, 'You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways. Now appoint a king to judge us, like all the other nations.'
8Ask your servants, and they will confirm this. Therefore, may my men find favor in your eyes, because we have come on a festive day. Please give whatever you can spare to your servants and to your son, David.’"
12I spoke to Zedekiah king of Judah with the same message, saying, "Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon; serve him and his people, and you will live.
16But they, our ancestors, acted arrogantly. They stiffened their necks and did not obey Your commandments.
11He said, 'This is what the king who will reign over you will demand: He will take your sons and assign them to his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots.
17He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves.
7But they replied to him, "Why does my lord say such things? Far be it from your servants to do such a thing!
18When your people say to you, ‘Won’t you explain to us what you mean by this?’
11For this is what the Lord said to me with a strong hand, warning me not to follow the way of this people:
