    23Then the two men came down from the hill country, crossed over, and went to Joshua son of Nun. They reported to him all that had happened to them.

    1Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two men as spies from Shittim, saying, "Go, inspect the land, especially Jericho." They went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there.

    2Soon the king of Jericho was told, "Some men from the Israelites have come here tonight to spy out the land."

    3So the king of Jericho sent orders to Rahab: "Bring out the men who came to you and entered your house, because they've come to spy on the entire land."

    4But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them. She said, "Yes, the men came to me, but I didn't know where they were from.

    5At dusk, when it was time to close the city gate, the men left, and I don’t know where they went. Pursue them quickly, and you might catch up with them!"

    6(But she had taken them up to the roof and hidden them under stalks of flax she had arranged there.)

    7The pursuers set out along the road toward the fords of the Jordan, and as soon as they left, the city gate was shut.

    8Before the spies lay down for the night, Rahab went up to the roof

    9and said to them, "I know that the LORD has given you this land and that fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you.
