    7To them the chief of the eunuchs gave names: he gave to Daniel the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.

    8But Daniel resolved in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's delicacies, nor with the wine he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

    9Now God had brought Daniel into favor and tender love with the chief of the eunuchs.

    10And the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, "I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and drink. For why should he see your faces looking worse than the young men who are your age? Then you would endanger my head to the king."

    11Then Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

    12"Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.

    13Then let our appearance be examined before you, and the appearance of the young men who eat the portion of the king's delicacies; and as you see fit, deal with your servants."

  • 10And the food which you shall eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day; from time to time you shall eat it.

  • 4And let the maiden who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti." And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.

  • 1It pleased Darius to appoint over the kingdom one hundred and twenty princes, who should be over the whole kingdom;

  • 10That they may offer sacrifices of sweet aroma to the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king and of his sons.

  • 18That they would seek mercies from the God of heaven concerning this secret, so that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

  • 9And the maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness from him; and he speedily gave her her things for purification, with such things as belonged to her, and seven maidens, suitable to be given to her, from the king's house: and he preferred her and her maids to the best place of the house of the women.

  • 18Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once every ten days an abundance of all sorts of wine. Yet in spite of all this, I did not demand the governor's provisions, because the bondage was heavy on this people.

  • 34And for his diet, there was a regular portion given to him by the king of Babylon, daily a portion until the day of his death, all the days of his life.

  • 30And his allowance was a continual allowance given him by the king, a daily rate for every day, all the days of his life.

  • 4And the thing pleased the king and all the congregation.
